i really need to wax my car badly, but i wanna clay it 1st, what is a good brand to get that i can purchase locally at like autozone, oreillys or walmart? does it come with the LUBE too? or do i have to get that seperately, i never claybar before, all i know is you gotta apply some lub before you apply it on the car, some ppl tell me i can use meguiars quick detail spray as the lube, but i want to be sure first before i do this, so that i dont mess anything up...

 

i used one by mothers, from a local auto parts place. It was about $15 and comes with the lube spray, the clay and some wax. Kicked the @ss of some really bad water spots i had on my hood.

You can make your own lube with some car wash soap and water. Put it in a spray bottle and go for it.

Don't go too crazy with the clay bar. Anything that cleans either uses chemical processes or abrasive processes. Guess which the clay bar is? I use one as a last resort but if you wanna get the wax off and don't want to do it with abrasion, try the Mr Clean soap or some Dawn.

I don't think he's using the clay bar to get the wax off. It's more for pulling the impurities out of the paint.

i also use the mother's claybar kit (from autozone) that comes with a claybar, detailer spray/lube, and a useless little bottle of canuba wax (since i use crystal guard). i was also scared at first, but there's nothing to it. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img] you won't mess anything up if you make sure you use enough lube, don't press too hard when claybarring, and fold the clay as soon as you see it picking up crap from your paint. happy cleaning.
