Scratched bumper

My girlfirend backed her dads car into someone and scratched the bumper pretty badly. It's not dented or anything just scratched down to the primer.
Am I able to get an automotive paint and just lightly spray it to cover up? or will it need to go to a body shop and be done well?
The photos make it look way worse than it really looks because of the flash.
The car is standard black and it's a 2005 mazda 6, pretty basic color so I could probably get it from autozone or something.
Thanks for any help in advance.

you may be able to get it to look a little better. you would need a PC or rotary, but you could probably get some of the surface scuffs out with a with an aggressive polish. the gouges that are down beyond the paint will require a repaint though. the body shop will likely sand and bondo the damaged areas and repaint the whole bumper.
