Wax for Black G35
Wax for Black G35
I need a little advice.
What wax would you recommend for a Black G35?
More importantly, how often can I wax it? Is too often not a good idea?
I appreciate your feedback.

Read through the 4-page thread I started called "Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Carnuba vs. Meguiars NXT." I too have a black G35 and tried several waxes (synthetic and carnuba) to get the best mirror shine finish, but also to remove the hard-water spots and swirl marks. As you know, black is a great color on the G35, but it shows everything!
The best solution I've found (excluding the time consuming and costly Zaino route) is the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Souveran carnuba wax combo. The Klasse All-In-One is a synthetic wax (which is supposed to last 6 mo.), which goes on first as a base coat, it removes all the old wax, and removes the hard-water spots and swirl marks. Then, after letting the Klasse AIO cure for 12 hours, you top it off with a coat of the Pinnacle (Liquid or Paste) Souveran carnuba wax...WOW!!!! I just applied my 2nd coat of the Pinnacle Souveran carnuba wax. I will probably wait at least 3-4 months before I apply another coat or start over with the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba combo again. This synthetic/carnuba combo seems to be phenomenal for black! Both the Klasse AIO and Pinnacle Souveran waxes are $24.95 each and can be purchased online or at your local fine auto detailing stores.

Re: Wax for Black G35
If you put a carnuba wax on your car, you're going to have to replace it at least every two weeks in summer on a black car. It has a relatively low melting point, and gets pushed around too easily. If it's non-swirled, i'd go with CG. If it's hazy or scratched, I'd go with Zaino/Klasse.
This is what CG got me- pardon the dirty pavement.

Re: Wax for Black G35
My pictures after applying the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba combo look similar to your CG pictures.
I live in S. Florida where the sun and the heat are obviously very strong. I cannot comment on your thoughts about carnuba waxes, except that I do know the Pinnacle Souveran carnuba wax was developed in the Florida Keys, and the co.'s HQ is in Stuart, FL. In additon, I've been using Zymol carnuba wax for years in S. Florida and although it's not great for black cars, the carnuba wax certainly lasts for a few months or so.
Also, I've read that one reason the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Souveran (synthetic/carnuba) combo works so well is the fact that you have the Klasse AIO synthetic wax as a base coat which extends the duration of the shine for several months (and it definitely does remove the swirl marks and hard-water spots -- I had terrible spots and swirls before the Klasse AIO).
Although I just applied a 2nd coat of the Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba wax after doing the initial Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba wax job a month ago, it wasn't a must...the mirror-like shine was still there and the water beaded up just the same. I just did it because I may be a bit **** about it, but it definitely didn't need it, which means that my combo wax lasts way beyond 2 weeks and even more than 1 month in the S. Florida summer sun and heat although I do garage it of course ;-) I will admit the garage or no garage factor may greatly affect how long any wax will last.
From what I've seen and read, the CG seems like an excellent choice (but I admit I have not used it). However, not knowing how much it costs and how easy it is to apply, I don't know if the CG in fact does a better job and/or is a better value than the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Souveran combo. Either way, it seems as if we've found a few excellent solutions to keeping a black car looking its best.
btw - I have read that the Zaino system really is the best (for all colors including black) but I didn't want to invest the time or expense in the Zaino. So far, I am very happy with the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba combo ($50 total for both and I have plenty left over for another 6+ wax jobs in the next 2-3 years or so).

bsgoren... your method, no doubt, gives a great shine. some of the reasons that i chose crystal guard is the relatively short application time and i've seen it last throughout an entire winter and through bad rainstorms (surprised the heck out of me). i don't get all sad anymore if it rains for a day. spray the CG on a wet car, spread it around, wait a few minutes, and buff out. easy as that. no need to wait 12 hours. no need to apply any other compounds. i like my car cleaning/waxing done in the same day and in the least time possible (because it takes me so long to wash it and the rims). but that's just me. i'm switching to zaino, however, the minute i start seeing any swirls or spiderwebs.

Click on my user name thing and check out pics of my G. The full car shots near the water were taken when the car was a month old and just detailed with Pinnacle Souvereign Paste. Good product, nice shine, didn't last long. I have a picture there of the my trunk, opened with a reflection. That was taken a few weeks ago (car is 16 months old and never garaged) after an application of Zaino. I just started using Zaino a few month ago, but it is holding up well so far. Then again, I now have about 4-5 coats on. All in all, everyone has their preference. I have detailed many cars and have pretty much determined that synthetic is def. the place to start unless you have a show car that never gets driven.

Re: Wax for Black G35
First of all...you shouldn't call anyone 'nuts' for taking a couple of hours to properly wash and wax their car, no matter what products they use. This thread was started so someone could find out how other people are keeping a black G35 shining for a long time. Secondly, sometimes I wax my car if I have the time and inclination and sometimes, I run down to my local car wash/detail place and have them do it with the orbital and buffer. We have 2 Infiniti's (an '03 Liq. Copper FX35 which replaced our Lexus RX300 and the '04.5 Black G35) so many times, I'm tired just washing 1 car ;-) Nonetheless, we're now an Infiniti family and yes, I like to take care of the vehicles we drive and I'm certainly not crazy for this.
Not that this is any of your business, but I do just fine...working from my home office, covering a multi-state territory for my company. My G35 Sedan is my new company car, replacing the 2000 Ford Taurus they gave me 4 years ago. As most know, black is especially hard to keep clean and shiny. I tried several waxes before I found the Klasse AIO/Pinnacle Souveran combo (which I read about all over the Intenet as a fantastic wax solution). All I was getting at was the fact that these 2 together seem to work really well...the Klasse removes the water spots and most of the swirl marks and the Pinancle Liq. Souveran carnuba really deepens the mirror-like shine. It should last 4-6 months and I'm hoping I don't have to wax again until then. Having both a coat of the synthetic wax as a base coat and the carnuba wax on top seems to give you the best of both worlds. g35girl prefers the CG and it works for her...that's it. If you choose to wax your car another way or with another product, then that's your choice, but don't bash us just for giving friendly advice.
btw - the synthetic/carnuba combo wax solution is very easy...I washed and dried the car. I applied the Klasse AIO and wiped it off. Then, I let it sit overnight, and applied the Pinnacle Liq. Souveran carnuba wax and wiped it off...that's it. It was basically the application of 2 coats of wax (just 2 different types).

Hey, I never said you were 'nuts.' That was zazaracing who thinks we're all nuts for waxing our cars. I did say I heard and read the Zaino system was the best, but it just wasn't for me. So far, I've had great results with the Klasse AIO/Pinancle Liq. Souveran carnuba wax combo.

Re: Wax for Black G35
When it comes to clay bar, honestly, any one will work. Everyone packages the same crap and sells it under a different name, but clay bar is clay bar. Don't go uber-discount and get something that'll leave residue like a ****, but pretty much any middle-of-the-road one will work to get the job done. As long as you wash off the areas after claybarring, it doesn't matter.

i have the mother's claybar kit from pep boys. it comes with a claybar, detailer/lube spray, and a useless little bottle of canuba wax. i think it cost around $12. some have bought theirs from online pro detailing stores, but eh, i'm with geobau on claybars. however, waxes are a different story. happy claybarring.
