Nikku Detailed: Is your car as Smart as this one?

Hi everyone,

I had an interesting detail request. This was my first smart car. Smart not because it's a "Smart Car", smart because it came to me. I know korny anyways.... The car although an interesting car was not as interesting as an owner. He's a local musician and the stories he's told me about what he's done over his career is pretty cool. By no means is he a huge superstar but very cool in his own right.

In any case he brought his car to me with the intention of a two step polish. The polish was the easy part the annoying part was to find that someone accidentally had sprayed white paint all over it. I have no idea where it's from or how it got on there. All i knew that it was there. They were large paint droplets but noticeable a few feet away. It could possibly have been the car for the smurfs with the white polka dots.

Anyways on to the car and thanks in advance for reading.

BEFORE

I know the interior is quite the mess. Do you notice the gas canister? Can you say Ka... boom? lol It's empty but when I saw it I was like ummm...

Old newspapers anyone? I think I found a deal or two in the ads.

The carpets were a little soiled but nothing a good steam and extract couldn't solve.

Now on to the exterior paint condition.

Remember those white dots I was talking about? Check it out it's all over the car. I was using yellow riccardo's on the paint and it just took a really long time so I decided to pull out the heavy hitter blue riccardos.

This was a poor attempt at a 50/50 for some reason I couldn't get the imperfections to show up as nicely as usual. Regardless of that you'll notice the hazing and swirls on the right side while the left is nice and clean. I had to hit the left side with 2 passes of Power Finish and White Sonus and in some areas I had to hit with 3-4 passes. I burnished the paint with blue and micro polish.

Rocker Panel Corrected

Passenger side door 50/50.

AFTERS

Application of Sealant

Completed Product

Thanks for looking and thank the pretty smart car for coming to me in the first place

Cheers,
Nick

lol I didn't drive it. I moved it from the drive way into the garage and it definitely doesn't feel that secure.

xjonmo, it was a small car and little to polish but it had such weird curves that I had to hand polish certain spots. The little paint spots were not fun at all. Claying took a long time.

Nikku - I still can't believe your work, you do a fantastic job. You better believe if I am ever around your area i'm taking a pit stop to have the G cleaned up by you. I need someone with those skills in Mass.

Smart car (polybutyleneterphtalate panels)

Daplen ED230HP replaces polycarbonate polybutyleneterphtalate (PCPBT) that traditionally serves in body panels, such as bumpers, side panels, tailgates, and hoods. Smart's pioneering approach to using polypropylene for full body panels is a major step forward for the automotive industry and its suppliers, Daplen ED230HP helped

The Smart company tightens its production process while raising the environmental, aesthetic, and safety performance of its vehicle. The TPO is an in-mass colored compound: Colors are blended into the compound to provide a ready-made base coat. As a result, post-assembly painting steps are reduced with only a painted clear coat layer needed
