Something that I just picked up that I love using for my wheels is Poorboy's spray and wipe. I just picks up break dust like crazy and gives my wheels a nice shine. I haven't had anything really baked on however so I can't say what it will do with that but awesome product.
You can find it here http://www.detailedimage.com/Poorboy...-P38/32-oz-S1/

Sounds like acidic wheel cleaner is the problem... You probably have etching in your wheels bro, from acidic wheel cleaner sitting for too long. Basically, your wheels have a clear coat kind of like your paint. Your let something acidic sit on the paint, like bird ****, it's going to etch. Same thing with your wheels, acidic wheel cleaner + brake dust sitting is not good at all.

Acid and / or Bleach are not compatible with clear coat paint (especially if the finish has been compromised)

I have this same issue- to some extent. I spent this last weekend cleaning the bajeebus out of the wheels and didnt really get them really that clean. I have black water-looking-ish spots that are all over (well that and road rash from the previous owner). I have looked into replacing them but after some research I found these are pretty good wheels. I also found that if I just go and have them all resurfaced and painted it will be a heck of a lot cheaper and functional than "throwin some d's" on it.
a resurface and painting here in the midwest (okla) is roughly $500. I have considered doing a very glossy black and keeping the lip a "semi-polish" - but still havent kept the stock thought out of my mind either.
Another guy from tulsa that is on one of these forums had a set on his G that he had painted black and they looked really clean... just some thoughts. (google: powdercoat g35 forged, or painted g35 forged if interested)
