Clay Bar usage question...
Clay Bar usage question...
Hey all-
I've just purchased Crystal Guard with the microfiber cloth and before I apply it, i would really like to clay bar my car. Is the Mother's brand good stuff? But before i do that, are there any precautions when doing the actual "claying" such as how much fluid you should apply to the body of the car before rubbing it down with the bar, and the recommend time of day to do it, in the sun, or indoors(garage). Sorry i'm asking so many questions but i just want to do it right.

Re: Clay Bar usage question...
When claying the car, just keep the surface of the paint lubricated.........it doesn't have to be soaking wet, but a liberal amount of liquid is necessary. There really isn't a "good" time of day to clay the car..........just do it out of the sunlight as clay tends to soften when wet and exposed to sunlight. Remember, if you drop the clay on hte floor, toss it...........the debris picked up from the clay will begin to scratch the paint up immediately.

Re: Clay Bar usage question...
Thanks wil for your comments. Suppose i drop the clay bar, is it possible to buy just the bar from anywhere local? Don't really want to buy the whole kit again just in case i do drop it.

Re: Clay Bar usage question...
I'm not sure whether your local auto parts store would carry clay only because I get them from a distributor in L.A.
Also, even if you don't drop it, it's a good idea to discard the clay after usage on two to three cars at most. Clay works really well in removing oxidation and contaminants, but it is also one of the common tool that is used to create scratches and swirl marks.
