5 weeks since I got the car.

I notice driving this morning that I had a nice 6 inch long crack on my windshield. A chill runs down my spine. Every few minutes, i hear a crack. (it's getting longer)

So as soon as i get into the office, i call up some guy. He comes out and works on it for about an hour. By the time he had gotten here, it has gotten to about 10 inches long. (FACK!)

He drills a small amount to stop it from getting bigger. He also drills the original chip (that started the crack)

In the end, it looks like a scratch with a lil chip at the end.
Truth be told, unless you're looking for it you won't see it.

Shiet, it was 70 bucks. Supposedly i can get it back from the Insurance company. Otherwise, i might go ahead and get a new windshield. I *HATE* blemishes with a passion.

I always go with a zero glass deductible. I break about one per year...

HI, I JUST NOTICED YOUR POST. COINCIDENTALLY, MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED LAST WEEK ALSO. DO YOU STILL HAVE THE PHONE NUMBER OF THE GUY THAT REPAIRED YOUR WINDSHIELD. IT SOUNDS SIMILAR TO MINE, ABOUT A FOOT LONG CRACK RIGHT AT EYE LEVEL. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I'D NEED A NEW WINDSHIELD BUT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ALTERNATIVE.THANKS.

Mine came out as good as it could really. He stopped it from spreading and it looks like a scratch on the windshield.

Luckily mine is on the passenger's side. I still need to look around to see how much a new windshield is.

If you lease, get a new windshield. The crack repair doesn't cut it when it time to turn it in. Many folks use the replacement service where they bring a windshield out to your home/apt/work and perform the repair with no hassle.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Brea but I decided to go ahead and get the windshield replaced. I found this place called windshieldguy.com and they quoted me $353 installed. Most places want between $450 and $500. It's supposed to get done today so I'm happy as long as the thing doesn't end up on my lap while i'm driving home......or leak when I wash it.

I was in a similar situation, though my crack was not as large. The repair went well and it's pretty hard to notice unless you're looking for it. I had only had the car for a week when a rock from a dump truck about 100 yards ahead of me locked on to my windshield. I was pissed. I thought about a winshield replacement, but I was a little paranoid about the seal leaking if I were to have it replaced.
