I suggest you take it to someone if you have to ask, because it is a lot of work.

You're going to need to sand it, then buff it on a buffing wheel. remember all those little lips? Yup, enjoy those.

its worth it to buy it from SxExCx...he is a vendor on the forum... by the time you get frustrated enough to buy one, you will have wasted 10hrs...

This is a HUGE DIY job. Lucky for you, I am running a special with big savings.
Check it out and PM me if you are interested.
FYI, I have worked on most of the high profile cars on this (and many other) forum.

Yes, it is aluminum. There is special polishing compound for aluminum, just google it.

Someone posted a link to a DIY somewhere on here, I'll see if I can dig it up. I was in the same position as you a couple months ago and ended up doing the upper plenum myself. I ordered a kit from Caswell. Not really sure how long it took, I'd say at least 10 of the most boring hours I've ever spent to my car. Needless to say, I'll definitely be having someone else polish the rest of my parts when the time comes haha.

I don't know how Sean can make these worthwhile to do. My technique and tools must suck. Its A LOT OF sanding.

Sean, do you use blue magic after the sanding or do you throw it on the buffing wheel, or both?

You should really just consider picking up one from Sean, or buy a spare to do in your free time if you really wanna try it out. (I have one for sale...not worth my time since those little areas are so hard to do )

I do almost EVERYTHING on a wheel. The final steps are to clean it and hand-buff it with the Blue Magic.

I'm surprised you like Blue Magic Sean, on a side by side I did on a couple different surfaces, I found Mothers Alum Polish worked a lot better. Whenever I've tried Blue Magic, it left tons of swirls in the metal. I dunno.

what kind of sand paper are you guys using? Are you using a drill with attachments, dremel, or hand sanding all of it?

The emery cloth pads are worthless..they gum up in 5 seconds. The aluminum oxide seem to hold up pretty good but hand sanding seems to make it take about 40 years and completely ineffective for time.
