Repairing wheel pitting from brake dust

Look at the beautiful black marks on the inside of the wheel !

This car was my dads and the oem brakes ruined his wheels. he tried everything to clean it but to no avail. I searched around for about 15 min but haven't seen exactly on the forum. Now I have the car and I gots ta keep it clean!

should I sand it down and use some duplicolor?

Whatever you do to get it clean, keep it that way. The damage wouldn't have ocurred if your dad hadn't let the dust accumulate and eat at the wheels.

if you're gonna re-finish them - have them chemically stripped and powder coated...

How bad is the damage? Is it in the clear coat? Or does it physically travel into the wheel?

You may have to refinish the wheel to really get it nice. Question is, how much do you care about these wheels?

OP, i have the same problem. If you care about the wears, have them redone the way OCG35 said above. Stripped and powdercoated. In the future, make sure you use wheel polish and wax to protect it from happening again.

I stripped mine and primed and painted them. The finish came out well, but it was waaaaaay more work than I thought it was going to be at the outset.
If I would have known how much effort it was going to take to get back to bare aluminum, I would have probably just sanded it down a little and painted it.
