WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

Okay so I went to PepBoys today. For those of you don't know... They sell car supplies, great for car care stuff. They are inexpensive and have a good selection. I went there to get a Mothers Clay Bar Kit. It was $15.00 but I couldn't resist so I also bought...

8 Microfiber Towels
1 Bottle of Mothers Car Wash
1 Bottle of Mothers California Gold Carnuba Wax
1 California Water Blade

Question... anyone use the California Water Blade on black? It was an impluse buy. I'm going to give it a whirl this Saturday unless anyone has any objections. If they do I will gladly return it. Any takers on this?

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

I bought a water blade when I first got my coupe. I found it was more work to use it so I returned it shortly afterwards.

Did you get a clay bar?

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

I have the water blade and a black coupe. I use it to wipe off as much water as possible and leave the rest to dry (I also use the AutoDry which works for me).

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

I know I'm a little late on this but, I have been using a Cali Waterblade for about three years. First on my old 330i and now on my Black G Coupe. No issues at all.

Let us know how the clar bar kit works out for you. I want clay my car to clean it up b4 the winter season rolls in.

Pep boys quality microfiber towels are terrible. Be careful... especially on your black car.

also make sure your car is absolutely clean before running the waterblade on it. imagine it a speck of dirt got caught on the blade....

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

waterblade is excellent...
if your car is absolutly clean. if a even a tiny particle is left on the paint the blade will cause some scratches.

i'd recommend a waffle weave microfiber instead. the difference is that the microfiber has pockets that grab any dirt left on the car, and keeps it away from the paint. thats why 99% of detailers use either cotton or microfiber to dry cars. i also found that using a waffle weave is faster than the blade. and gives you more room for error, remember little rocks can fly on the car from a gust of wind. being careful is very important especially with black.

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

this is totally off topic, but would you recommend NOT using an orbital polisher on a black car, or is it ok??

04 / Black on Black / aero / splash / prem / perf / cc / 22%tint
z-tube / k&n drop-in / Stillen anti-sway bars / side-blinker mod
Eclipse AudioVideoNavigation 2454 / 10W6 sealed + 250/1 (temporary)

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

Do NOT use an orbital polisher on a black car if the paint isn't "deep cleaned." This means either with a clay bar or those 3M paint cleaning chemicals. Professional detailers will always properly prep the area to be worked on before taking an orbital polsiher to it. Even though sears and automotive stores sell them, I still would not use them. It is very easy to burn through the clear coat if you are inexperienced. I'd recommened a random orbital polisher from Porter Cable instead.

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

orbital polishers are okay. they will not burn the paint. their motors are way to weak to do this. but they won't remove paint imperfections either. they just don't generate enough heat like a rotary or dual action. all they are good for is applying wax/polish. basically an effort saver.

a dual action like a porterCable 7424 is different. its pretty much safe for a black car as long as you use common sense. make sure the car is clean, don't press down to hard, ect. this is what i use, and it is very effective in removing minor scratches and swirls off my Black sedan. I think its a great investment.

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

now rotary polishers are different. they basically spin like a wheel. this enable the machine to produce tremendous heat and cutting action. this is great for removing paint imperfections, but also great at burning through your clearcoat+colorCoat+baseCoat. You could burn right to metal with a rotary in 3 seconds. DO NOT USE A ROTARY IF YOUR ARE NOT A PROFESSIONAL.

Re: WENT NUTS AT PEPBOYS!

My bad... I always thought orbital and rotary were the same thing.
