Is a sponge safe on your wheels?

Was curious to what you guys use when cleaning/washing your wheels, especially the lips. Is a sponge and car soap such as Meguiar's Gold Class safe on them? If not I'll take some suggestions from some of the detailing pros on here to tell me what kind of material they use on their wheels.

i use a sponge for my wheels and i havent had any problems so far. Its way better and safer than using a brush.

If you're really concerned about scratching your wheels then just use a sheep skin mitt.

Pick up a couple Lowe's Proline Grout Sponges, they are some really soft sponges and the only thing I use on the face of my customers wheels (plus a SV Wheel Brush for tight spaces the sponge can't reach.) And yea, after you wax the wheels, Meg's gold class is great to use to take off light-medium brake dust.

I only use my sheepskin mitts or microfiber towels for anything on my car.

Depends on the wheels, if you have OE wheels using a sponge should work fine. With my polished Volks I need to be very careful so they won't scratch, so I only use micro towels and lots of water.
