Oh crap, how do I fix this?

So I got some mothers wheel cleaner for my work VSXX's, I did the "test on an inconspicuous spot" thing and everything went well so I cleaned two wheels went back to look at the first and All these nasty white marks on my lips, they look almost like dried water spots but more white. So I tried to wash it off and it wont come off! It turns out the lips are anodized (which I didn't know) and the product says not to use on anodized wheels. I've scrubbed and washed and nothing seems to make it go away? Am I pretty much screwed?

There was a thread about annodized lips, can't remeber if it was this forum though.

Give me a minute I'll look around!

Try using a watered down simple green mixture, or some water down rubbing alcohol.

I've tried rubbing alcohol and some aluminum safe cleaners and other compounds, it looks better but still not 100%. I contacted the manufacturer to see if there is anything they know of that can help. They asked for pictures and emailed me back saying they are sorry it did that and that its not meant to be used with anodized lips. They also said that they will be sending me an "arsenal of products" that should restore the finish and the shine.

In short you are screwed. You should'nt use anything other than soap and water on volk wheels. My boy used a wheel cleaner on his volk gt-f wheels and he got the same white streaks that wouldn't come off. He had to eventually have the barrels re-polished by a wheel shop.

If the products I get don't work I'm going to have the barrels refinished. I figure I might as well try since its not like I can make it any worse. Since mine are matte there is no clear coat on the barrel or the face.

yikes... should read around here next time before you spray overly strong wheel cleaning products on your expensive wheels. take them into a shop to get them fixed and then just stick with soap and water and a good wheel sealant

I'm never gonna use those wheel cleaner sprays. Soap should do it.

/\ I keep my wheels waxed and because of that, it takes nothing but a quick shot of the hose and a wipe down to get them looking great again.
Waxing is a PITA, especially in my wheel's mesh design, but it's better than using harsh cleaners.

sorry to hear about ur situation. i wax my gt-s once a month with ice. i also only use soap and water for washing. i've had similar experiences as you on previous sets of wheels. since then, i'm too paranoid about using ANY wheel cleaner.

I've gotten it to the point where its only visible in bright light or up close, my only other option is to have them refinished. I'm tempted to have all 4 redone and have them toss on a matted clear coat that way I don't have to worry anymore since only the lip was affected.
