TUF SHINE Permanent Tire Shine Review
Thanks to Greg @ DetailedImage.com for the kit. http://www.detailedimage.com/TUF-SHI...ance-Kit-P545/
Before:
Before:
Step 1: Spray the TUF SHINE Tire Cleaner on the tires and let it stand for 60 seconds.
Step 2: Wet the provided brush and scrub the tires.
Step 3: Rinse off the tire and brush and repeat steps 1 & 2 until the suds are white.
You need to be sure the tires are clean or the clearcoat will flake off.
It took 3 cleanings per tire until I started to see white suds.
My tires are only a few weeks old, but I was still surprised how much junk was on them.
Step 4: Dry the tires then apply the TUF SHINE Tire Shine Clearcoat with the provided sponge.
Depending on the level of shine you want, apply a coat and let it dry, then apply another coat.
1 coat = matte
3 coats = high gloss
I went with 2 coats. I felt that 1 coat wasn't quite enough since my car is OB.
It only takes a minute or two for the clearcoat to dry.

My tires have never looked so clean. I've used several different tire cleaners and shine combos, but this is by far the best.
The clearcoat dries smooth and does not have an oily feeling at all.
Interestingly, the clearcoat wasn't at all what I was expecting. I thought it'd be a gel or something a little thicker.
Instead, it looks a lot like Armor-All. I wondered if it was until I noticed that my hands seemed "sealed" where I'd gotten the clearcoat on them
The kit comes with gloves, but I'd handled the sponge after I'd removed them.
It took about 30 minutes to do the whole car. I found it was faster if I did one side of the car at a time.
I would be scrubbing one tire while the cleaner is doing the do on the other tire then switch back and forth until the suds were white.
I used a bit under 3/4 of the bottle of cleaner, but hardly any of the clearcoat. It seems that the kit will run out of cleaner way before the clearcoat.
Which is probably the idea since you should just be able to wash the tire normally then reapply a layer of clearcoat if it is getting dull.
Luckily Greg sells the cleaner separately if you need it. 22 oz for $9.99.
The real test is going to be seeing how long it will last.
I'll keep an eye on it and update this thread when I notice any wear or flaking.
Update 5/31/11
I was finally able to get a chance to wash my car and get a pic for you guys. It's been a bit over 3 weeks since I applied TUF SHINE. I noticed that my tires were starting to look a bit dull, but I figured it was just because they were dirty since the roads are a mess from all the rain/storms we've been having.
I washed just my wheels, with a bucket of soap and water, in my garage (I think we were in a tornado warning at the time). Sure enough, the dirt just wiped off the tires and the shine was back. It made cleaning the wheels super easy. Here's a pic of the bucket after I finished washing. That's a white rag in there...
The next day I was able to give my car a proper bath and snapped a decent picture.
I didn't notice any flaking or issues with the product on the tires. It looked like I'd just applied the TUF SHINE. The only thing that I'd recommend is when you are applying the clearcoat to dab it on the tire anywhere that there is lettering. If I looked close, I could see some spot in the middle of some letters that the clear coat didn't reach when I wiped it on. So just dab it on the letters first and then wipe it on the tire and you won't have that problem.
