im in ny and its getting cold out..i have off friday so i wanted to wash, claybar, and wax my car but i have 2 questions
1) its supposed to be like 45 tomorrow, is that too cold to claybar or does temp not have an effect besides me freezing my a** off
2) i have about 6 coats of meguiars carnauba wax on my car so far, should i dawn wash it and take it all off or just wait and do all this when it gets warmer

Re: a few claybar questions

If you use carnauba, more than likely you don't have 6 coats left on the car. It tends to fade quickly over time. I would probably say to skip the clay since it will remove all the wax remaining and just wash, clean, and add a few more coats of wax. Save the clay for the spring whenn you will strip it all down (what's left after the winter) and start over. I would say the more wax you build up before winter the better, but those are just my thoughts.

I have to agree with Diesel. You want to keep as much wax as you can on your car for the winter. Man, I don't miss those winters.

I would say it depends on how much time you have on your hands and can you get a nice warm dry place to do your work.

From a comfort point you will likley have frozen fingers and the clay will be near rock hard. This will likley cause you to rush your job.

How about adding a couple more layers of wax over the winter and when it gets warmer out give it a full clabar and polish topped off with your wax of choice.

Also get a good quick spary detailer to use after every wash to add back a little bit of protectant each time you wash.
