This is a dumb question, BUT, how do u avoid rock chips on the hood?

I had a white camry so i never gave a crap about the surface of it. But, now that ive got a G35 ive been noticing that theres quite a number of rock chips on my hood due to a 4hr trip i took(But there were already some chipped parts on it already be4 the trip). The size of these chips are like realy tiny dot-sized but u can still see it when u look at it under the sun. I dont drive close to some1 else's rear so im really confused. None of the other G35's ive seen on UT campus has them... Am i doing something wrong? How can i avoid them more effectively? This is a question from me, a newbie... thanks!

If you drive, chips are inevitable. Product of environmentally friendly paint, speed, hood slope, etc. Some color cars show them more than others. To mitigate, you could get a clear bra (after chips are repaired). I just use my I30 for longer trips and when local roads are under construction. I fix chips using this process: clean chip, layer in factory touchup paint using #2 artist brush, cure, wetsand 2000, polish, wax ... works like a champ. Congrats on the car; chips aside, you'll love it!

Well, the only way to avoid road rash is to keep your car in the garage and walk. Seriously, stay back from (and or quickly pass) the larger vehicles--rigs, dump trucks, delivery trucks/vans. This can save your life too, since alot of these vehicles lose large metal springs, brackets, nuts and bolts and dangerous cargo that can go right through your windshield and decapitate you or crush part or all of your face--happens once or twice a year in Houston. Also, avoid roads with recently paved tops or recent tar/gravel top if possible.

That's about the only way to avoid them! They are a fact of life in a car!

i've only had my black coupe since march 04, but thanks to the crappy paint it looks like i've had it for years. My entire front bumper is covered with chips and just recently my hood. It really sucks. I've noticed that other cars (hondas, bmws..etc) don't experience this kind of problem. i think eventually the only way to solve this is to get a new front bumper.

You should have a professional detailer touch up those chipped areas and then have a clearbra applied. This will definitely keep it from getting any worse.

If you had spent a few bucks before you picked the car up you wouldn't be is this situation.... It is avoidable, but it is up to you.

Sorry about hijacking this thread.....

Yeah, it was my fault for not getting the clear bra. But, when i first purchased the vehicle, i saw a Z with it and it looked horrible cuz all the dust and wax was stuck on the leading edges. And half the hood looked shiny and the other looked dull.

i just wasn't fully sold on the product.

my black G's front end looks like its been sprayed with a shotgun, regardless if u have a clear bra or not, keep a far distance from the car in front of you on the highway, thats how 95% of the rocks chips get there. If your behind a rig, get the F out that lane, u can hear those tires ping them off your ride. I am only 20, and i always wonderd why fools with hella nice cars never ride *** on the highway, after the first week of having my G, i found out why, now im one of those people.

So if the Z was dirty you wouldn't be sold on Nissan's?? That just doesn't make any sense... Too late now though.

Get it repainted and then clear bra before driving it. The clear bra has saved me so many times.

Are you really going to let a beautiful car get that dirty?
