And you really don't need to bother with the low 1000-2000 grit stuff unless you are dealing with Major oxidation. I do this every other year on my headlights, don't like the idea of using a chemical sealer made for other applications other then on my dime of a car. I just use the Meguiars headlight sealant AFTER an alcohol-water (50/50 mix) rinsing. This step is left out in the tutorial he gives, but is very important if you want the sealant to work effectively after polishing.

The detailing guys out there will agree its me that after any polish you must rid the surface if any chemicals before sealing. The rubbing alcohol mix is perfect for this any can be bought at any grocery store.

Those look great.

Once they are restored, you can apply a coat of wax every couple of washes to keep them looking new.

I have been doing this with mine for almost 9 years and they still look new.
