How do you capture that new smell?
I've been trying for years to emulate that new car smell... but to no avail... I've purchased dozens of "fresheners" that claim to have that new car smell but they don't... the closest I ever got was to spray some auto paint into a can lid and hide it under the seat. It was close but no cigar. People have told me it's an automotive trade secret... that's why many used car dealers are able to give a used car that new car smell. Anybody know the secret to this? I mean the authentic new car smell. There's got to be a solution for this.

The off-gassing of those new plastics, upholstery, leather, paint, adhesives, and chemicals inside your cabin create that 'new car' smell. It's the same thing that causes the inside of your windshield to get a haze for the first several months until the off-gassing is done. People like that smell because it's psychological. I love that smell, it's like you get excited when you sit in a new car and smell it. I may have to try Chemical Guys Mfg air freshener out.
I have a friend who was successful in keeping his Acura TL smelling like a new car for several years. He was able to do this by simply never driving around with the windows rolled down and he always ran the A/C in recirculate mode only (never air from outside.) He never used air fresheners and kept the inside immaculately cleaned, vacuumed and only used leather conditioner that had that "leather" smell to it. He also never smoked or ate in his car either. His car still smelled great even when he traded it in at lease end.

My new V36 doesn't have as good of a leather smell as my old V35 I must say, not matter what I try to condition it with.
