For those that have tried CG

I should be getting my black coupe this week. I'm thinking about using CG. I wrote to them and asked them a few questions. He recommended getting the Pro Application Kit, which has the Primer, Pro Base, and Top Coat, then using the CG Quick. Has anyone used the pro kit? In the video on their site you need the air hose stuff to apply it. I'm wondering how I'm going to get that onto my car. Also just wondering about people's experience with the Pro Kit in general.

Thanks,
John

Re: For those that have tried CG

I'll let you know next weekend... I've been doing some paint prep on my Black G35C this weekend...

If you get the CG Pro kit, make sure you have a good compressor and a good gravity feed spray gun... they have porter cable gf spray guns at home depot for about 50 or 60 bux...

Also, if you apply the CG pro immediately after getting your car, you should be able to just do a light hose down (no high pressure spray, just let the water run all over your car, no oxidized water from the spray attachment). once the car is all wet, spray with cg wash if you decide to buy it... then do as they say in the video, except you can skip the part about the primer coat... since your paint is brand new you won't need the primer...

i made the mistake of washing my car improperly a few times and ended up getting a lot of fine swirl marks... now i have to spend all this time gently buffing them all out with a nice glaze before i apply the CG pro... I'll be doing the CG pro some time after work this week so I'll post full results next weekend...

What about the air?

So I can get the gravity gun at Lowes for $59. But what about an air compressor and hose to attach to it? They are all $160 and up. I hate to spend all that money just for a ~1/year thing. Can you rent these?

John

Re: What about the air?

I'm pretty sure you can rent them from nations rent at lowes or even borrow from a friend... but I spent $329 bux on a 30 gallon, 6.5 HP, 175 psi compressor with attachments and tools... I've always wanted airtools to have around the garage and house... I think a compressor is a nice investment if you have space for the tank... I like the sound of the impact wrench taking the bolts off my wheels.

Re: What about the air?

Jim Campos from CG emailed me and said that you can also use a spray bottle. This might be a little cheaper at $2

yeah i would think so too, perhaps an empty clean bottle of windex or something of that size will be perfect, its just your hand will get super tired because of all the spraying you will be doing

Re: What about the air?

The gravity feed gun or the HPLV spray gun is better... because it totally vaporizes (hence the name high pressure low volume) the solution and provides a very super fine mist coat... no clumping, no dripping... just a very nice smooth even coating... a word of warning though, make sure you experiment with just plain water in the GF sprayer before putting any CG in there... it takes some getting used to before you have control of how much comes out...
