Newbie Question - Buffer Polisher

Hey Guys, I'm new the G35 scene, just bought a 2005 G35 coupe. Last week a ordered some quality detailing supplies and had a question for you all about buffers...

I was given an old Craftman orbital buffer that is 15yrs old but only used once, Has technology changed much in regards to buffers or can I save 130 bucks and use this one CRAFTSMAN 646.10712 Buffer/Polisher.

It looks similar to this one...

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jerry

Thanks for the quick reply guys, much appreciated.

While I have your attention, what do you use to clean the interior A frame & Roof cloth? The G I bought is in really good condition, only interior imperfections are located on the cloth, love to get rid of them, the car would look brand new!

Don't waste you $$ on ebay trash!

There's only one good place for those old Sears buffers....city dump! For the past few years I've been using one of Griots kits. For the cost of having your car detailed once you can get there Orbital kits and (they come with a instruction vid) that should last you a life time. Griots clay is the best I've ever used, works on painted surfaces and glass too. If you ever want to make sure your glass is clean clay it first, results are amazing! www.griotsgarage.com

There is a big difference between different buffers. The two biggest problems with the older craftsmen buffers and similar units is two fold. They don't have enough power to really work in polishes and they don't have the best pads to work them in. These two elements are absolutely critical to a high quality polishing job. Lastly the terry cloth bonnets are prone to marring the paint where as the PC you can utilize the foam pads that work much better and are much safer.

I would highly recommend a package deal like this one - DI Packages Porter Cable 7424XP 5.5" Starter Kit. It has the buffer, backing plate and pads you need for excellent work. Best of all you can select any combination of pads you'd like on the checkout page by adding a comment in the comment section.

The PC is very easy and safe to use. To help master it quickly I'd highly recommend you read the polishing section of our detailing guide. If you have any questions after reading that don't hesitate to ask!

I hope this info was helpful and if you need a product recommendations don't hesitate to me know!

Generally a small amount of APC can be applied to a microfiber, then rub the damp spot of the MF against the stain for a second or two and it usually comes right off.

Greg,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I found your comments very insightful. I did order the buffer from the Amazon site posted the other day by a member but bought my detailing products from DI.

I did check out DI's reading material on detailing a car, super informative! I was really impressed.

Thanks Again,
J

Porter Cable 7424xp is your best bet. Use lake pads and good compound/polishes on the G paint. Dont buy any of that generic autozone stuff.
