What happened?

I have a black 2008 g sedan in pretty good shape, decided to polish the car and started with the hood, used Final Polish by Menzerna with a white dimbled polishing pad. Looked fine when in the garage but when outside in the sun I can see some very light swirl marks. I know its not the Menzerna, so could it be my pad, I did not put much pressure going over the paint.

Thanks

you have swirl marks from final polish and a white pad?

switch up to a black pad and it will go away. you might have overworked/not used enough polish and were dry buffing the paint

or your pad was contaminated.

or you laid on your wax over the menzerna oils and thats what you are seeing!

ARE YOU TALKING SWIRL MARKS FROM WIPING THE PAINT WITH A MF PAD, OR PAD MARKS WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE PATH OF THE PAD WHILE POLISHING? I KNOW FOR CERTAIN ITS NOT HOLOOGRAMMING FROM THAT COMBO...

Thanks Eric, your right about the holograming, it was there before as a body shop buffed out the hood because of a scratch, I only noticed it when putting a light on the hood after getting home, that when I decided to polish the hood. I will purchase a black pad, any you recommend? The pad seemed good but who knows. I better read how to apply again, at what point do you stop going over the paint.?

Well one thing that isn't clear in the OP is what kind of swirls they are. Did you create them or did it not remove ones that were already in the paint? You'll want to work the Final polish for about 30-45 seconds medium pressure, then light pressure for the next minute or so until it breaks down. The polish will turn from opaque to clear, that's when you'll know it's broken down and ready to be removed. If it's not breaking down in 2-3 minutes, you're using too much polish or too big of a section.

I use Lake Country pads. Black and red are the softer ones. It should help a lot.

A white pad on a black car (no matter what product you pair it up with), especially soft infiniti paint will almost always leave some holograms.

Like others said, try a black pad

Thanks guys, most helpful, will get the black pad and prime the pad before buffing.

Maybe the 2008 paint is softer than my 2003, both cars being black and a G35
