Interior Aluminum trim
Interior Aluminum trim
Alright so I have some scratches on my aluminum trim. Is there any safe way to remove the scratches? I know theres types of metal polish, but I don't want a big shiny spot. Any suggestions?
Shoot, I've been meaning to post pictures. Since you have an 06, you have real aluminum. I'm thinking it has a clear coat on it, not anodized, but I don't really know. Anyway, you can sand it down. It will be a slightly lighter color, but not noticable difference to the center console when you are in the car. Sand it down smooth (remove the outer coating) and get some medium grit sand paper, maybe 300 grit or so. Take that 300 grit and a foam pad and put the brushed look back in the aluminum by running it straight as possible across the aluminum. It's easy to some how clamp the sandpaper and foam or have someone hold it and then run the trim piece over it until you like the brush marks put in it. If you want deeper markes, get lower grit sand paper. 220 might be good.
You can also switch the trim pieces from the rear doors to the front. The rears are not used nearly as much as the fronts and usually don't have as many scratches.
