Cleaning Wheels?!?! HELP!!!!

What does everybody use to clean their aftermarket wheels? I got some PIAA Super Rozza (they have polished lips), and they are a biatch to clean. I have been trying to clean all the brake dust off with the same soap I use to wash the car, but that take a lot of elbow grease. What type of products are out there to "loosen up" the brake dust build up? HELP!!!

i'd just continue using the mild soap and water. try using the meguiar's green cap soap. it works wonders on my Volk shoes. i've gone 3 weeks without washing mine (think about that brake dust buildup), and it came off easily.

I just wouldn't let it buildup...If you wait till you wash the whole car to wash your wheels your bound to have all kinds of brake dust "unless you wash your car 3 times a week like I do" ...These brakes are infamous for farting out dust like its their job...I have a habit of once a day taking a microfiber cloth to my wheels and cleaning off the dust...This way it never settles, it doesn't become hard to deal with...G'luck

this is a good question...

should we be wiping the wheels with a micro fiber towel too often. sometimes i feel like i should touch it because the more you mess with it, the more chance you scratch the polish lips.

do you think its better just to wash the wheels once a week with a pressurized hose so that most of the dust is blasted off by water.

i just got new volks and i want to avoid as many little scratches as i can.

sometimes i wish we had clearbra for rims....hahahah

I wouldn't be worried at all about wiping to often with microfiber towels...Just make sure that they are clean, and don't use anything but microfiber...If people swear by them on their paint, then you have no worries for your wheels...Gluck

I just bought some REJEX for my new shoes. I haven't put the wheels on yet (19" RH Pro J8 SBC), but I have put one coat of Rejex on them. It did make a huge difference already! SUPER SLICK and really brought out the shine. Supposedly, one coat of this stuff lasts for 6 months. It really did bring out more of the black in the SBC (super black coating -black chrome- although it looks more like regular chrome). I would like to get a few more coats on to squezee out maybe an extra month or 2 which would take me to winter again! Anyway, very easy to use, like regular wax, only catch is they want you to leave the item out of the elements for 12-24 hours (after removing the polish) for it to cure. It was very easy to do with the wheels off the car.

From what I have researched, Rejex makes the wheels much easier to clean and pretty much makes the brake dust wash away under water pressure with minimal wash mitt/soap contact!

Once I put the new shoes on (end March/April), I'll be sure to post up my experiences.

Some peeps also Zaino their wheels with great success too!

In between weekly washes (especially if my car is relatively clean except for my wheels), I'll quickly wipe each wheel with a swiffer pad; it removes all the brake dust and dirt. As a matter of fact, I washed my car last Sun. and I used the swiffer pad on my wheels today; took about 5 minutes for all 4 wheels, and my whole car looks like I just washed it, including the wheels. The swiffer pad was completely black and my wheels are now shiny..it works great!

Now that's a nice tip!! How many pads per wheel do you normally use? I know if it's really dirty you'll need more, but roughly if you do it every few days is it like 1 per wheel?

Does it scratch the wheel at all seeing as no water is used to float and wash away the dust?

Actually, I used just 1 swiffer pad this morning for all 4 wheels (I used both sides of the swiffer pad). However, if my wheels (especially the front) were really black - completely full of brake dust, I would probably need 2 swiffer pads. It shouldn't scratch the wheels at all; the swiffer pads are just as soft, if not softer than any microfiber towel.

I tried the swiffer pads, but it never really got the wheels as clean as I like.....

I usually use Eagle 1 A to Z wheel cleaner (orange bottle), then spray them down and finish them up with my car washing soap and the end of my wash.....
Cleans not only the rims, but keeps the caliper and pads nice and clean as well....Best job IMHO>>
