the blank cd scratch test for towels - DF Concours Towel = fail!
the blank cd scratch test for towels - DF Concours Towel = fail!
So today i went to a pretty expensive detailer in my area and they were nice enough to give me some tips on choosing towels after having buffed out a scratch on my side door panel. They said the best way to tell if your towels will scratch is to whipe them over an unused, unscratched blank CD-R.
So, as soon as I went home, I brought out my towels and applicators and tested them one by one.
The Dragon Fibre Perfect Shine Buffing cloth left zero scratches on the CD.
The 100% cotton applicators from Zaino left zero scratches.
My DF Concours towel and wash mitt both left scratches on the CD!! They have been the cause of my minor scratches and swirl marks this whole time!!! These were my most expensive towels also.
All three types of towels/applicators were purchased at the same time, washed in the same manner (mild liquid detergent in warm water), and used the same number of times. All were dried according to their respective care instructions. All variables held constant!
Moral of the story: don't buy a towel thinking it'll be scratch-free just because it is expensive.
