Great write up D!

Regarding the use of ZFX . . . when I asked about this (I believe Sal Z himself, can't remember) I was told that you can use it as much as you want but that it is only necessary when,

1) You are doing multiple coats in one day (usually the first time)

2) You need it to dry really fast (relatively speaking)

3) As the first coat of Z on your car (as opposed to using the old Z1)

Other then that, it isn't necessary, and you can just slap a coat of Z2 or Z5 on a car that already has a coat w/ ZFX.

Am I mistaken?

I read on the forum that you can use ZFX as many times as you want, supposedly, it wont damage your car. Please someone correct me if I am wrong in this matter. I use ZFX very often.

EDIT - ZFX is just supposed to accelerate drying time of the polish itself. Instead of using the 4 drops per ounce, I use 2 since Florida is really warm. I dont see how using ZFX (a dry accelerator) 1nce a month instead of 2ce a year could hurt my car.

^^ Ditto, let's say you put 4 layers over 2 weeks and you use ZFX with each layer. 6 months later you repeat the whole thing (even though I do that more often). I don't see how it can hurt it, more than washing it down with Dawn for example.

Zaino says nothing (that I can recall reading) about ZFX damagin the car. DAWN however, is supposed to be abbrasive and Zaino warns about frequent use of this. ZPC is also abbrasive, and despite it being a Zaino product, Zaino creator himself suggest not to use this frequent.

For now, until prooven different, I still think ZFX wont harm our cars.

Ok . . . I found it! I dug up an old email exchange I had between me and Sal Zaino. Here's what he said in response to my question:

5. Should I use ZFX for every coat I apply to the paint?

I wonder about him saying dawn won't remove Zaino. In my experience it will (not a bad thing), weird. I wonder how folks are supposed to remove Zaino if dawn won't do it? ISA:water maybe?

I vote for DAWN removes Z2. Its hard to explain in the 2 minutes I have available, but I am pretty sure DAWN does remove Z2/Z5 after it has been on for at least 2 weeks.

I think ISA (isopropyl alcohol) will remove Z. If not, you can use a chemical/abrasive polish. That will most definately remove Z.
