Just got a new black G35....

Sedan. I know it's gonna be tough to maintain, but had to get the black. Just wondering what you guys do to help preserve/maintain it. I know a clear bra is recomended, but what else as far as the rest of it. Get leather protector? wax? what supplies are the general consensus, how soon should i apply it. I'm basically looking for the ABC's of what to do with the new car.

Clear bra of course. Get some Zaino Wax, or another kind if you have one you already like. Seems that most people wash and wax at least once a week.

First and foremost . . . Congrats to you on your new G. You will get alot of answers with regard to car cleaning supplies. I had a clear bra type product applied as soon as possible. For the exterior, I like using the tried and tested Klasse AIO and Klasse SG products. I follow up with apps of P21s carnuba wax. For the interior, I like using Zaino #9 & #10, leather cleaner and conditioner.

There's tons of info here to help you decide on the right products for you. It's a bunch of reading.

A clear bra is always a nice step to take, the fronts take a beating after a while. I've heard so many horror stories about very thin clear coats on G's and even if they aren't you should still wax/seal it asap. The easiest way to take care of a car is to start off with it in good condition. After the swirls and scratches have become serious it takes more work to remove them. Obviously wash and dry the car first. Then to protect your car I like to use sealants that are very durable and can give you a good shine. The Klasse All in One is a chemical polish that will give you long lasting protection. It can simulatanesouly clean your clear cloat and protect your paint. Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket is also another great choice. It is my personal favorite. Menzerna designed this polymer sealant to be very resistent to water, snow, ice, soil, abrassions, pollution, contaminates and more. It's very durable and extremely shiny. The shine is hard to replicate from any one product that offers comparable protection. This is also the easiest sealant I have ever applied or removed. Another great step for protecting your vehicle is to get wheel wax. The G's kick up a good amount of brake dust on to the wheels. A thin coat of the Poorboy's Wheel Sealant is designed to protect the wheel from temperatures up to 400 degrees. This is important because brake dust comes off at extremely hot temperatures. Overtime the brake dust will eventually pit the wheel if they are not properly protected and cleaned over time. Applying the sealant will protect the wheels and make cleanings very simple and easy. Just a simple wash or wipe will have the wheel looking like new again.

As for regular maintenance I would recommend washing it about every 1 -2 weeks. There has been large debates on here about whats the safest way to do it that won't add swirls or scratches. The truth is there is no fool proof method only ones that minimize your risk. I use a shampoo that has conditioners (i.e. won't strip wax like dawn would) there is a lot of good ones out there like Poorboy's World Super Slick Suds. I get two buckets out, one with soap the other without. Then I use a microfiber wash mitt to dunk in the water w/shampoo to clean the car. After each time I clean a panel or two I dunk the mitt into the clean bucket of water and rinse it a little. Repeat til car is clean. Then when I'm done I dry it with a microfiber waffle weave drying towel. These things soak up a lot of water and very paint safe.

This is the combination I use with excellent results

hey all, I also have a 05 coupe 6mt in black, im use to taking my 03 rsx-s through a touchless carwash 1-2 times a week. i normally get the top of the line wash with wax. do you guys have any opinions on this method. I would wash it by hand if I had time, but I just bought a house and I am very busy. thanks

Going through a touch free car wash is not a horrible option, it's obviously better than the bristle brush ones. However when that much pressure is exerted on a car it can push contamination into or across the clear coat. Over time this can become more noticeable, especially on a black G. Swirls and scratches are commonly from washing (by hand and touch free methods). I personally feel (although others will definitely tell you pressure washers are the way to go) that two buckets and soap is the safest method. In the dead of winter in the Northeast I go into the touch free car washes but I know it's not helping.

As for the wax your getting at the car wash that is definitely no good. Break down and wax it twice a year atleast. With a sealant like Menzerna FMJ you can easily apply and remove your whole car in 45 minutes tops (not including the wash and dry part).
