Help: Paint Chips!

Help: Paint Chips!
I just noticed a grouping of paint chips right under the passenger-side headlight. I was very aware of the 350 paint problems and thought I saw something about that here. Do you guys have any ammo for me when i show the dealer.
I don't want him saying that it's not their fault my car got hit with pebbles. I've only had the car 3 weeks now so it's a little upsetting, I want to get the clear bra, just haven't had time.
How do I get this to fall under warrantee or as a factory defect? Thanks guys.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
Ok ok...
This is what Ive heard from an inside source who works for Infiniti Service....
The problem is not so that the paint itself is poor, but rather the painting process. Simply put the paint is not baked long enough on the car, and the cars are shipped out with the paint actually still soft. The car is painted and then wrapped with the paint protectant film shortly after, and then from there it gets placed inside a ship and or a container or whatever the case may be and then it arrives in the US where it sits on the lot with the film still in place or inside the dealership where it does not see sufficient direct sun light, to further help the "paint baking process". And at the rate these coupes are selling, people are pretty much picking them up as they get off the boat. In that event, the paint can actually still be soft 1 to 3 months after the car has been painted! This is a fact! Some of you who have had better luck, may have just gotten a car that had been left out in the sun for a few days or even weeks, the rest of us however where not as fortunate. The best thing to do, is DO NOT wax you car when you get it, although you may feel the urge to do so, don't! Let it sit in direct sun light for a few days. I mean you can drive it, but when you're done instead of tucking it away into the garage, leave it outside. Let the paint fully bake! A few days of this with 80-90 degree weather and you'll be set!
When I got my G, it rained the 1st week I had it, so I had no choice but to keep it inside. Soon after the following week and after only putting a few miles on it, I let it sit outside for close to a week, only pulling it in at night. I think it helped as its held up pretty good to chips or dings and I've got 2k miles on it.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
I concur with ducatiguy... i left my G in the sun for a few hours each day and in fact is in the sun right now..lol I have had my G for 2 weeks to the day... had the clear bra installed on Monday and I have had it in the sun as well to help cure the bra install... will Zaino in day or two and my paint seems hard and looks great...

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
Hummm, I wonder if they are doing a "CYA" in order to shift the blame to the dealers or the poor saps who bought their "G" fresh off the boat?
I got mine right off of the truck. Still covered with white plastic sheets.
That was January 17th. I guess not the best time for "baking" wet paint.
However, I deliberately did not wax it for a month because I felt it prudent to wait just in case the paint was still fresh.
I should make that call.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
i'm not dismissing the fact that the paint is soft, but it also has to do with the fact that with this car we travel at speeds of 100+mph easily and with little pebbles and rocks on the highway = paintchips.
at first i got upset then thought to of getting a clear bra..... then i thought how much would it cost to repaint the bumper 2-3years down the road, probably the same (plus the fact that u get that residue on the edges of the clear bra)

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
I have to agree with the above posts. I got most of my chips within the first two months, and the car would only come out on weekends. Since, the paint had gotten a chance to get baked on, and a few coats of Zaino - I don't see any new chips on my bumper. Tabz, I am with you on the price of repainting VS clear bra. I think I'd rather repaint the bumper a fiew years down the road, instead of buying a clear bra.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
It's not just the front bumper or the front edge of the hood.
There are dozens of "clearcoat scratches" on the bumper and the leading edge of the hood.
But I've also got missing chips of paint. Most are down to the primer. Some are down to metal and at least one is now rusting.
I've got them on the top of the hood, the roof (where the rusting one is located), the side of the rear fender and a big chip (about 3/8"x1/4") that is on the bottom edge of the trunk lid where it bends under to meet trunk itself.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
Tabz is right. Rocks & debris get hurled at our cars at up 150mph.........no paint system could withstand such an impact. In addition, due to government regulations, the chemicals in the paint today is what makes it softer than older vehicles.

Re: Help: Paint Chips!
I agree there is an issue with the Infiniti paint. My car is only 20 months old and has well over 100 small marks and scratches on the bumper, the front of the hood and front side panels. Its just too much. My car is black and I clayed the hood and the bumper last weekend it ended up magnifying all small marks and now they stand out like white dots all over the hood. Quite ugly : (
I agree with the bake theory as my car was built on 10/02 in Japan and was on the road early Feb of 2003. I am sure it was under covers until it got to the dealership and it seems it did not stay there for more than a few days.
If anyone get the dealer to do something about it let all of us know. Maybe they do something like what they did for the brakes : )
