WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
i just got my g35c, and i have been seeing a lot of people talking about crystal guard. what kit should i get when i go to that site, plus what the best way to put it on?
Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
Get the "Crystal Gaurd - Quick" not the pro app.
A small bottle of CG-Q is good for 2-3 applications. ($25)
A large bottle of CG-Q is good for 6-8 applications. ($50)
Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to waxes and polishes. Most prefer Zaino, some blackfire, some Klasse, and some prefer Crystal Gaurd.
CG is very quick to apply....it will take around 30 minutes. The shine and protection will last 4 months (lasts as long as zaino). Regular waxes will last only 1-4 weeks.
Directions for crystal gaurd can be found here
There are also videos and how-to's on CG's webpage, crystalgaurd.com

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
I personally was disappointed with CG. It does provide some benefit, but I wasn't awed with the results.
What did awe me was that I got just as good or better results with a $4 bottle of Eagle-1 Wax As You Dry. This stuff is even quicker to apply than CG because it doesn't require the final rinse, just spray it on a wet car and dry it off. And the resulting shine on my Desert Platinum sedan looks great.
Maybe Wax As You Dry won't last as long as CG, I haven't had it on my car very long yet. But at approximately 1/20 the price (it comes in a much larger bottle), I can use it every time I wash and still save quite a bit of money.

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
not if an application of CG lasts for 4 months, times 8-10 applications per $50 bottle. Thats 3 years worth of CG in 1 -$50 bottle.
One bottle of Eagle-1 will last you about 4 applications, but once a month. So 3 bottles per year. Thats $15 a year. Times 3. Thats $45 LOL
So the costs of CG and Eagle1 are identical. Except CG only needs to be applied 1/4th as many times!

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
I agree with the Eagle 1 Wax-as-U-dry comment.... you can find it for about $3.00 per bottle at Liquidators and it's incredibly easy to apply and remove. The results are awesome too.
It's so cheap and easy to use, I have no problem with spraying my car down with it after my weekly washing and drying it to a nice, waxed shine.
None of the multiple steps of all these other wax "systems". Simply spray it on and dry and you're done
By the way, the bottle says that it should be good for up to 12 applications. So it should last a lot longer than mentioned in the other post

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
One word for ya - Zaino.
The initial application takes time. But once you have it on, cleaning the car subsequently is very easy. No more rubbing, just go through with a sponge, and dry. All dirt comes off easily! Zaino's baby, Zaino's!

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
I was amazed the first time I washed my car after zainoing. Even soapy water was running off the car. Still shines like it did after I finished zainoing it 3 weeks ago.
I’m going to try the leaf blower trick to dry my car off next time. I hate all the water that comes out of the cracks when you drive it after a wash.

Well, the large CG bottle claims 6-10 applications, but based on my experience the first time I did it, I would be lucky to get 5-6. And BTW the Eagle-1 claims 8-12 applications, but just to be fair we'll assume that I also get 5-6 out of it (even though it is a bigger bottle). That changes the equation a bit.
As to CG keeping the car shiny for 4 months, that certainly wasn't my experience. The fact is, I have a much shinier car by using Eagle-1 every time I wash than I would using CG every 4th or 5th time I wash.

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
I don't think we should discount the fact that CG will protect your car much better than EagleOne; it doesn't melt until it reaches a considerably higher temp, and is much harder as a shell.
That being said, if you are solely worried about shine, get EagleOne. If you're considering the long-life and protection of your paintjob, get CG.

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
Sorry, but I don't buy into that "harder shell" stuff. It may be true that the CG will last longer between applications than a typical spray wax, but do you really think it gives a "hard shell" of protection over the paint?

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
...and if you don't believe it, I'll sell you a coupon for a chemistry course. Just because something occurs on a molecular level and you can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If you'd like me to get a chemical engineer to look at CG, I will.
Tighter molecular bonds are harder to break than weak ones, especially if the weak ones are temperature-sensitive (ie. carnuba wax). Harder materials are hader to break through, and thus it is harder to scratch the next surface underneath. CG is about 70-75moh, EagleOne is 5moh. Shine ain't everything, buddy...

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
aparently you did not apply it correctly if you used THAT much. The way i do it, 1 CG bottle will last 10-12 applications.
I've CG'd my Corolla nearly 4 months ago, and i must say, its PRETTY DAM SHINY for a 6 year old $4000 beater!!

Re: WHAT IS CRYSTAL GUARD?
Yeah, the first time I CG'd I used half the bottle (it was windy too- what can I say, I have idiotic moments). The second time? 1/6th or so. Same shine, and theoretically the same protection. I used the "NEW EXCITING" way of doing it, many thanks to the author.

Re: Crystal Guard durability :~{
Did my 2nd application of CG about 3 weeks ago and shine was great. Before leaving on a weeks vacation drive washed the car and rinse water beaded like crazy. Return drive featured a 2 hour thunderstorm while going 75MPH and today when I washed the car the rinse water just sheeted off with virtually no beading on the vertical surfaces. Not sure if the heavy rain did it in but if water beading can be equated to paint protection then this product isn't very durable. Wonder if I should reapply CG and then after a week to cure apply a good wax over it. Any thoughts?
Re: Crystal Guard durability :~{
The CG will resist a wax on top of it... if your car heats up a little, the wax will melt right off since it's not bonding to the surface it was designed for.
