slight surface rust

alright, it's not as bad as it sounds, although probably worse than you'd expect on an 04 infiniti. I'm noticing small (really, really small) spots of rust, about the size of a spec of dirt. I'm even seeing this on the plastic bumper (confused at this point). If I use my fingernail, I can get most if not all of these specs of surface rust off. But, I do notice that these specs are coming back in some places...mostly on the rear hatch (near all of the badging). I'll probably end up debadging, to some extent, the vehicle I keep the car waxed, but this is still happening. Is there something I can do to stop this from happening...on top of waxing the vehicle on a regular basis? Should I continue to try fighting this, or should I solicit the help of the dealer or other professional to try and battle this annoyance?

Thanks,

Mike

Do live/work near some train tracks? Sounds like rail dust to me. Claying will get rid of it relatively easily. Keep a nice long lasting sealant/wax on and regulalry apply. That's all you can really do. Wash it regularly as well.

Rail dust is what it sounds like to me also. I live in the city and get tons of it all over my pretty ivory pearl paintjob. Grab some Zaino clay, or any good auto detailing claybar, and use it every few months. Keep a nice coat of wax on her and it wont be such a chore to clean up.

When I first looked at the responses, I thought nice try but no train tracks. However, when I went out to my car after work I realized that there is a set of tracks that go right by the parking lot...I've seen dozens of trains pass by, but it just didn't occur to me until now.

So, rail dust will cause this annoying occurance, huh? Looks like I have to start taking the bus to work. I noticed this on my last car, but it was a WRX and I just attributed it to a crappy paint job.

I don't want to sound to naive here, but how do I best use the clay bar? I'm into keeping my car clean and have heard people talk about it...just haven't used it.

Thanks for your help. This was really starting to get to me,
