rain-x

Anyone use rain-x on the windows or have an opinion on the product.

does it leave a greasy residue leaving the window a bit hazy when you drive at night and its not raining?

Re: rain-x

Rain-x is the best thing to happen to cars since the internal-combustion engine. Then again, I think that because it rains like mad here in the spring/fall. As for the haze--

I picked up my car and drove straight to Florida from the dealership (yeah, I broke it in in like two days. Woohoo!) When I arrived at the coast, my window fogged up outside like MAD. The windshield wipers couldn't even work fast enough to keep the haze off. I ran inside a gas station, bought some rain-x and applied it at a gas station. No huge discernable difference in the buildup of haze, however the wipers were suddenly 10x more effective.

I've used it since before I could drive (on my dad's car), and so far it's not once hazed up at night. Now, if you're in an extremely humid environment and your car is at a radically different temp than the surrounding air, you're going to have problems regardless. Best of luck,

Re: rain-x

I use Rain-X and it is fantastic at sheeting away rain. It leaves a surface film which is barely noticable. I reapply after two or three months, and usually find myself buffing down haze spots for a day or two, as I see the glass under various lighting conditions. The rainx web site mentions a new product called "rain-x windshield wax" which is supposed to be easier to buff clean. I tried a competing name brand product once (sorry, don't recall which one) which was much hazier and did not sheet rain as well.

Re: rain-x

It works great in the rain and also helps prevent water spots on the glass. (I put it on the windshield and the rear window and haven't had a problem with water spots there. I have noticed water spots on the side windows where I didn't apply the rain-x.)

I haven't had problems with haze at night but I am having a problem with it in the early morning. Don't know if this is related to the rain-x since I applied the rain-x as soon as I got the car. I do live on the coast where the humidity and heat has been very high lately. However I didn't have this much of a problem with my last car and I've noticed that my neighbors' cars don't seem to have this problem. I haven't found a solution yet either.

Re: rain-x

RainX..... Put it on ALL of your windshields and windows. Even the sides and rear. It works great man, i apply every 2-3 months and definitely gaurds against those water spots

It also makes drying your car MUCH easier after washing your car.

The Haze is somewhat apparent but can be mostly buffed off. The Haze will completely dissappear after 1 car wash, however the product is still there and still works for up to 3 months.

Re: rain-x

Yeah like Rambo says put it on all the windows!

BUT be CAREFUL!!

I tried to be slick and put 4 coats on and each time i buffed it in and got rid of the haze, BUT each application got increasingly harder to buff off the 4th layer took a few hours spread over differen't days... soap, windex, nothing could aide my removal of the slight haze except old fashioned elbow grease and time!

It is awsome though, water streams off my windows with the velocity of water park slides!!!

Peace, good luck!

P.S. A by product of this, I can run my windshield wipers on my window dry and they glide smoothly and squeak free, as if they were running in heavy rain!

Re: rain-x

haha yeah man for real nobody try it!

i had to drive for a couple of days with haze on the windows because the 4th coat was just not polishing out, and my arms were turning into putty!

I think i would have prob. got the same result with 1.5 coats

I'm surprised you still have hindsight through all those layers of RainX

This stuff is great! I use it on my G and Riviera. Target has the spray bottle for $2.99.

Re: rain-x

rain-x is a great product. i use both the window treatment that you do by hand and the winshield wiper fluid additive. the additive is great because if you are in a place that rains a lot you can put an extra coat on just by washing your windows while you drive. rain-x is a definate must for you windows

Re: rain-x

i use the rain-x product as well as the windshield washer fluid. They also make fog-x which is for the interior. That really helps the internal fogging as well. I'd recommend their entire line.
