Should I ask dealer to remove swirl marks?

Hey guys,

I've been agonizing over a minor problem I have with my black 6MT - the day after I picked the car up, when it was fully sunny outside, I noticed that my baby has some light swirl marks, primarily on the hood.

Now, the evening that I picked the car up, it was already dusk, and I didn't really notice them. Granted, it's my own damn fault for not looking more closely. The salesman that took care of me said that he wasn't happy with the wax job on the car, and that my first service was free, and they would wax the car again when I came in.

My question is, should I ask the dealer to not only wax the car, but remove the swirl marks since they were on it when I picked it up?

Since I've been researching in the forums, I've learned that removing swirls is a bit more involved than simply waxing the car, and I dont' know what process the dealership uses.

Any thoughts, advice, or opinions yall can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I guess I should mention that I've had the car 4 weeks, and haven't touched her with anything but cold water.

Thanks!

Well, I would think that if you brought it in within the first week or so, they'd be more prone to do it. Who knows what's been on the car since then, etc.? It's worth a try to ask, but they may not have the tools to do it. Then again, if you're going to Infiniti of Nashville, you're probably screwed either way

Oh, man. Yeah, I kinda thought the same thing. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow.

Oh well, at least if the dealer can't treat it, it CAN be treated.

LOL. Listen to me. I'm speaking as if my G is a person with an illness.

And thanks for the heads up, GeoBau, on Inf. of Nashville. Fortunately, I'm dealing with Harper Inf. in Knoxville, and so far they've been very nice. Of course, they're paid to be nice...

Re: Should I ask dealer to remove swirl marks?

I have had my black coupe for about 6 months. I would go to the dealer this time. However, my advice is to learn to deal with the swirl marks at home. It has been my experience, no matter how careful you are washing, etc with the black G, you will still get some minor swirl marks over time.

I bought the Porter Cable 7424 polisher and it works great for polishing out swirl marks when used with a swirl mark polish remover such as Meguiars.

I good wax should take care of the swirls; the Maguires stuff I always used before did (3-step pro kit).

I use Crystal Guard on my G after and haven't seen a swirl mark since. It also takes about 1/4 of the time the 3-step process does.
