Microfibre towel questions

Okay guys, I'm wanting to do this right, so a few questions.

1) Should I use microfibre towels for both washing AND waxing? I realize I'll need several if I use them for both. And I plan on using three or four different ones for washing various areas of the car.

2) what brands should I use or avoid? I just ran to Autozone, and they have the Turtle wax microfibre towels, has anyone used these with good or ill effects?

3) do I need to look for anything particular? I noticed that some of the microfibre towels online I've looked at contain a percentage of polyester. Isn't polyester bad? Won't it scractch my baby?

As always, your opinions and comments are greatly valued.

Re: Microfibre towel questions

I use them to wash and polish... Removing Zaino feels a little
funky as it's such a smooth process that it feels almost like
I'm not doing anything. Can't remember the brand I bought,
but I got them at Costco for about 15 bucks for the bag. Cut
off the tags, washed them and used them. So far, so good, no swirls whatsoever. Bear in mind that I have a DG coupe and you have black, so you might want a higher quality brand than I have... I believe mine are about 80% polyester.

What uchim said.

I use it for everything. I got my at www.properautocare.com. My didn't have tags on each of the towels, but if you do have them, take them out.

Re: Microfibre towel questions

I use them for everything from washing and CGing, to interior work. I've got a separate set for leather care, drying, buffing, etc. Just make sure, as everyone's said, you remove any tags and wash them separately after use. They should last a while. Happy detailing,

Re: Microfibre towel questions

With black, you will always get some swirls, even with micro fiber. I wash and then rinse the cloth etc. I even soak the car with suds before washing to help remove some things before I rub.

I am using CG and the car looks great (nice shine and reflection) but in direct sunlight and up close you can see some spider webs.

It is the nature of a black car being used for day to day

Have a healthy day!

Oh man, you're a Vandy graduate???

Where are you at now?

I had a good friend who went to Vandy while I was at MTSU. Hahahaha, I'm just state school trash, but I got my G now baby!!!!

Oh, dude, just this weekend while I was down at my parents' place, I had my mom's homemade biscuits with fresh strawberries from right outta their garden. Mmmmmmm.

But the damn trees drip sap on my G when I'm down there.

Re: Microfibre towel questions

Heck, want one?? We're officially out of garage space with the FX, so I'm trying to shed the Durango. So far my degree in Intl. Business Mgmt. has proven less useful than your art degree-- I'm not working I took the summer off, so I guess that's why I have 700+ posts in the past 3-4 months

Indy is cold, but not right now. It has more distinct "seasons" than Tennessee, but luckily the summers are overly-hot and humid. That's the thing that I hated about Nashville-- the humidity in summer! Sheesh, I was taking four showers a day!

AAaaaanyway, sorry about the hijack- did you find some microfiber towels that work for you? The one thing I found that really works to keep a spectacular shine is to CG a car, then just use a carnuba detailing spray after washes weekly. Keeps a nice shine on there, and the carnuba just disappears within a week or so, so you're protecting your REAL protection of CG. A lot easier to keep a shine than using a hardcore full-process wax.

Awwww, man, I am SO screwed...

Hey Geo,

okay, here's my plan. Following the advice of my FANATICAL friend who has an M Roadster, I ordered this Zymol stuff. I figure heck, $75 bucks a can, it has to be good, right? Then I find this site and see everyone going "Zaino! Zaino! CG! CG! Yay!!!"

So I'm like, "Damn, curse you fates!!! I had to go and order the Zymol two days before I found out how great these other products are." Anyway, since my black G has SWIRL marks on it from the frickin DEALER, I figure I'm gonna do the following:

1) Zymol wash (their Cleanse detergent or whatever)
2) Zaino swirl remover/reducer
3) Zymol HD Cleanse
4) Zymol Japon (carnuba) wax

I'll probably do the weekly touch up like you said with the spray detailer, etc.

I just really want to get as much of that swirl out as I can right now. I mean, like, I'm obsessing over it. Really badly. I wanted a white G35, but you know how it is down here in TN - very small cities, not much competition, etc, so black was all the dealer had, and black was what I took. I mean, I LOVE the car, I just kinda wish it were another color. Sometimes.

Gotta go drive! Talk to yuns later!

Black will grow on you like mad- looks SO damn classy, but still sporty/luxurious/etc.

What percentage carnuba is in the Zymol? I've got the same wax, but I abandoned it because it seemed to not be holding up too long in the long run-- then again I wash a lot, etc. so that can contribute to it. I switched to CG because of that, and put a cheap wax on top on occasion. So far, no scratched *knocking wood*. You may find that with the Tenn heat and black, it may not hold up as long, but that's just what happened to me. Definitely a good idea with the wash and swirl remover, though, I need to get some. Keep it shinin'!

Geo, I was just thinking today how much I love black. I actually wanted Desert Platinum, but the Sales rep. who had it didn't return any of my messages so I went with the black one. I've seen both and both look great, but if I had the decision over again, I would still go black now.

Great, isn't it? I posted some pics of our FX newly CG'd, and I have yet to see any car that will act just like a mirror with such deep, liquid reflections. Some say the lines of the G are hidden by the color, but in a way, it really accentuates the sleek styling. The FX in black is just flat-out gorgeous, too.
