How often should I wax my car?

I'm not a detailer expert yet, but from what I've read about paint (or rather clearcoat) being removed on a normal polish step, it isn't even 2 microns, or something ridiculously small. So IMO, i dont think its possible to overdo the waxing, especially with hand waxes that still contain some polish. However, Using the wrong equipment or technique and doing it too often could induce swirls and other defects sooner, but those could be cured by doing it right. I dont think you NEED to spend that much time waxing, esp with some of the high quality sealants that are available now. Just use some of that stuff and wash regularly, and I dont think you'll need to wax more than once every couple months.....

I've been waxing my G just about every weekend that I've owned it with Mothers Gold Class. The car looks fantastic. During the middle of the week, the car gets covered with green pollen, so I take my hose, spray it down, and the water just rolls off. The next morning it looks like its just been washed and wax. My good friend is a professional detailer, and he tells me that waxing properly will never harm the car.

Use something that's not removing the clearcoat or paint and you're in business. After taking delivery of the G, then learning abut Zaino around here, I've started using Zaino and I'm stuck on it.
Because I'm married and have a 4yr. old and 7mo. old, I used Zaino polish (Z2) just once right after taking delivery, followed by the gloss enhancer (Z6). After that, I went months and months with nothing more than frequent washes with Zaino car wash (Z?) and the G looked freshly waxed... ...unless compared to a freshly Zaino'd G. After washes, I'd hit it with the deluxe gloss enhancer (Z8) and it would have the visual * pop * again. Great stuff and easy to use!
Last weekend I washed the G, gave it a couple of coats of Z2 and did the simple spray-and-wipe Z8. Looks fantastic!

If it's just wax..then your only adding to what you already have on their.
I tend to wax every 3 months BUT after washing her I use a spray polish/wax
to spruce her back up with that wet/gloss look. Not every time though

Taking off a layer of paint? Hahaha. Too funny.
Waxing your car won't hurt it as long as the paint is clean when you wax it.
Washing your car all the time will wear the wax off faster though. I usually wash mine every weekend and wax it once every 3-5 weeks.
Meguiars NXT wax is what I use. It's a really simple wax to apply and buff out, and it doesn't leave those ugly wax-residue marks that the Gold Class and other non-liquid waxes tend to leave on your car from over-application and then exposure to high temps and prolonged sunlight. I think the NXT wax is actually a polish and wax, so it will not only protect your paint but also hide minor defects in the clearcoat.

Wax only add sa layer to the clear coat.
Polish, on the other hand, takes of a layer of the polish.

When it's new and from then on..........
I use only Zymol products, claybar, cleaner and
Concours. This wax is 90% white carnauba and
10% yellow by volume. When my car is new it
gets at least three coats in three days, bird crap
or sap just wash off. Then about every two months
or so I'll add another coat. It's almost like slipping
a trojan over your paint.....haha
