OK, it seems like every time it rains, my windshield fogs up and the only way I've figured out how to clear is by putting the heat up to 90 or the AC on, in which case it gets way to hot or cold. Is there some special way I should clean the inside, any product I should use? Somebody please help, its driving me crazy!

RainX has an interior fog product available.

Putting the heat on 90 AND having the A/C on may be faster. The A/C dehumidifies the air and helps it defog quicker.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
why not turn the A/C on and set the tempature to your desired comfort level? The A/C will dehumidify the air quite quickly

BlueGCoupe, do you smoke? Even if you dont smoke, your windows are probably just dirty, or have a layer of film on the glass.
Its very simple to make them not fog...clean your windows with Windex for Autos (doesnt contain Ammonia)
Works well for me.
If you want a super anti-fog finish, just follow that up with FogX, its made by the same company as RainX.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
I've always found that Fog-X gives something of a streaky finish and seems to make the glass attract grime more than just clean, untreated windows. Anyone else notice this?

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
Yes it does, but after that you have to wipe it down with paper towels. I found that paper towels take the streaky finish off better than compared to a towel. After that then clean it with windex. You Should BE cool, but make sure to apply coats monthly. Found it works even better everytime.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
dunno GG, i dont use FogX at all, i just hear that it works good.
I used to just clean my windows with dry paper towels, and has worked fine for me for the past 3 years that i've been doing it.
Now I have a bottle of Windex for Autos (with using papertowel), worked awesome!

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
Just keep a clean windshield. Hard to do with a new car as the film from the plastics and such build up quick. Remember the old trick of newspaper with a water and vinegar mix. Works great.

Fog-x and those products do create a film and the platic outgassing still creates a film over it so cleaning is still nessesary.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
Interesting......here is what i found:

Outgassing is the migration of volatile chemicals from plastic automobile interior components, and has been an automotive industry problem for years. As plastic components heat up in normal usage or from sitting in the hot sun of a car lot, various components of the plastics volatilize and migrate out of the plastics. These vapors then condense on the glass of the car, appearing as a sticky film on the inside of the auto windows, resisting all attempts at removal.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
I guess all those years as an engineer paid off.

You would not believe the things that happen in our world that the public is ignorant of and the amount of thought that goes into something as simple as a dash.

You think plastic is inert but man there are so many different plastics and additives to meet specific criteria that some are not really safe in alot of applications (human exposure)

The dash engineers have to worry about stability in a broad range of temperatures along with that a decent life span including flexibility, UV resistance, color stability and some sort of fire resistance (not a major factor)

Not one plastic will meet them all just some more than others.

Yes plastics outgas and the more stuff they have added to maintain or increase properties the more they do so. That new car smell? The plastics and such. The new smell of the carpet in a house? Plastics. Volitile compounds are everyhere.

I guess this may be a good arguement for using CG on the interior. This may create a barrier to slow the outgassing and reduce the film creation. Along with the ability to reduce UV degradation. It may just extend the dash life significantly

I may try a test on my car and see.

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
oh wow, this information is much appreciated.
Now i know why your name is juiceman.....you are a health fanatic (thats a good thing)

So far i have CG'ed the center console twice, with decent results. Its a bit shinier and feels MUCH smoother, will resist scratches better, too. And its a breeze to clean, the dust just whipes off so easily.

I am also debating on whether to apply the CG on the rest interior...

Re: Sick of foggy windshield!
For you folks in hotter sunnier climes, suggest you put a sun shade in the front window too.
Not only will it be reduced, but then where will the off-gassing go? Tough to get around a solid object like a sunshade. The dash and interior will be cooler, and degradation of the plastic will be reduced.
