FireFox SC update
FireFox SC update
Firefox what's the story on your FI project bro. We saw the polished SC and it looked great, is that beast going on soon? just checking in on the progress.
I polished the rest of the pieces. The intercooler was the toughest with the roughest surface. I was going to try to schedule something over the long weekend, but the guy I was going to use went on vacation to San Diego. He should be back tommorrow, so it is a matter of working into the schedule. I also got a hold of a VLSD rear pumpkin (have an open differential), so I will get that installed at the same time.
Yes, I'm thinking of driving down to SGP in Houston to get their VB upgrade. That's probably another $700-$800 and a Technosquare L-spec flash to raise the limiter to 7100. I'll probably do the flash first, since that seems to give just enough time for the stock tranny to shift when it is in auto mode.

To make a long story short, I had boost for about 20 minutes.
The long version...
So last Friday night, we finished installing the supercharger. Everything was running pretty well. It was on the baseline tune, but still I could feel the power kick in when it hit 3K rpm. Unbelievable.
I was on 183 east going home when I hear what sounded like rats running under my hood. So, I said I better head back to where I got it installed. So I turn back on to 183 west. Then while on the highway everything shut off. My power steering/brakes was gone. VDC, check engine light was on. I had to force the steering wheel to the right across two lanes to get to the side of the road. Luckily, I had enough momentum left.
The car wouldn't start. I had to get a tow back to North Richland Hills. The next morning we saw that the supercharger belt shredded. Not the serpentine belt but the belt that drives the blower. In the process of shredding, it put a hole in the hood insulation (see pics). It also took out two wires connected to the variable valve timing solenoid and shorted them.
The next morning, we fixed the wiring harness and put another belt on and fired it up. It ran okay, but I still had a check engine light. At this point, I could have said, let's keep going. However, after thinking about it for 2 hours, I made the command decision to remove everything and go back to stock. Being on 183 with the car just suddenly losing power was actually quite scary and I felt that it wasn't worth the boost (hyperlitesmu, now I understand why you are demodding your car).
Unfortunately, the ECU was fried as well (it was iding funny) when the two timing wires were shorted (I guess that's why the ECU fuse went off). For those that have a Vortech, you may want to go ahead and shield those two wires in case your belt decides to shred.
Needless to say, the mod bug has been exterminated for me, at least for a while. I will probably be selling the supercharger shortly.
