Its not about fear, its about preparedness. When you put on a coat does it mean that your afraid of the weather???

Your rhetoric about protecting yourself from crime is purely about fear. You put on your coat when there's a high percentage that there will be rain outside. What kind of percentage do you think there is for you being attacked in the street and needing to use a weapon? You don't wear your coat on a warm sunny day do you?
what is the percentage of the time that an individual walks or drives around and gets attacked? is it a significant percentage? is it more than auto accidents happen for car insurance that all you CHL proponents love to compare it to? is it more than the odds of people getting sick for health insruance that all you CHL proponents love to compare it to? is it more than fires in homes for fire insurance that all you CHL proponents love to compare it to? of course not. to think that more people get attacked and have the need for a CHL is preposterous when compared to any of the things CHL proponents have proposed.
let's get away from the rhetoric and talk about pragmatism and logic for a moment. let's talk sense instead of fear.

I have only reasons against the idea that if you don't have a CHL then you're somehow a sheep as opposed to a sheep dog as the article suggests. My differences only lie with that article.

I won't argue that.
It is clearly written from the point of view of a person that would be considered full time sheep dog.
I don't have a problem with you disagreeing with the article.
I do feel (as I think Moog did above) that you have a problem with those of us who choose to obtain a CHL, and carry a weapon.
The insurance bit.... it does come into play. If I don't have car insurance, or health insurance, it will cost me money. Money for tickets, money for un-subsidised (sp) doctors visits and time off work. But by not having the insurance of a CHL, IMO, the cost could be my life.
Regardless of the percentage chance that it could happen, I would rather have it, and use it, than not and possibly lose my life.... and yes, while you maybe very excited by the notion, I do have a natural fear of dying.
I'm mean think, if I died, I couldn't sit here and debate with you forever and ever........
Man this is fun...
rhetoric and....... pragmatism
heh, sorry bout that...

I have my CHL. I highly recommend taking it at Texas Handgun Academy (they have their own website). They're on Plano Rd. just norh of LBJ. All they do is teach that and several other similar classes. I think it was only $99 and the instructors were great. I shoot at The Bullet Trap in Plano. Buy a membership and you'll save a lot of money, plus they have the best selection of handguns and accessories in the metroplex - bar none. If you know exactly what you want to buy, I know a dealer that will beat anyones price on new guns. PM me and I'll hook you up.
Owning a gun and carrying it legally is your second amendment right. You'll be glad you did once you do it. All of the bad guys are armed, so why shouldn't us good guys be as well? If you haven't done so, look into the Castle Doctrine that Texas just passed into law last Oct. or Nov. Even more protection for those of us that choose to bear arms.
