Live music is all over the city, it all depends on what kind on music you guys like. Country, jazz, rock, rave, latin, etc...What kind of clubs/bars did you have in mind? Are you interested in a younger crowd 18-24 or slightly older 25 and up?

Restaurants...well Oasis is very well know for it's views of the lake, but some don't like the food. Any particular pallet?

+1 on the Oasis. Its the typical spot. But you pay for the view...I didnt love their food.

Another place is the Hula Hut...I like their food better!

There are a ton of places and things to do down there. You'll enjoy it!

I was there this past weekend for a float trip and stayed in austin sat sun and monday. I ate at the oasis, the food was ok (it's sort of texmex) but the view is amazing.
If you go out in Austin, you have to go to 6th street and 4th street. 4th street is the warehouse district and is a little nicer, but 6th street was an absolute blast. It's a great city, you'll enjoy it.

Oasis is expensive yes (75-100 for two). The food is kinda random. I had fish tacos (bland) and my wife had a burger. And the had some chips and queso to start with.

The Hula Hut is more to the Mexican Food side. We shared some B-B-Q Fajitas, and those were pretty good. And not so expensive. There is a nice little coffee/pastries shop next door. I think its called Mozarts.

From what Ive heard, 6th street is the younger crowd (college folks and such - pretty much were the 'mtv-real-world' folks hung out), and 4th street is a little bit older (with that comes more expensive drinks).

I suggest (if you can) to take your G. Those roads are fun to drive around the lake.

Might wanna post on the General Texas section, Im sure you can meet up with some of the Austin G Crowd if you wanted to.

Just find a spot to park and walk in. Half the fun of Austin is walking around 4th and 6th street looking for a place to check out. Go in for a little bit, have some drinks and then go look for the next spot. The people you'll meet, the things you'll see and the fun you have are all worth it. But, like I said, park and walk around some, check it all out. There are some pretty snazzy shops as well.

There's a couple really cool open air spots on 6th to enjoy a brunch or lunch of some sort as well but the names have slipped me. I'll try to think of them.

The Austin group would be happy to meet up with you and show you around. Send me a PM if you are interested.
Here is a copy of an email I sent a friend of mine a few months ago.

Sports bars.
  • Buffalo Billiards 6th & Brazos. Good food & drinks, lots of pool.
  • Logan’s 6th & Brazos. 21 and up. This place has big-screens, vast beer selection, good food, and DJs morph sound effects and movie quotes into dead spots during games.
Dance clubs
  • Speakeasy – 21 & up. The entrance is in a dark and crappy alleyway between Congress & 4th and 5th streets. Large cushioned couches and chairs in the roof top deck with kick a$$ music and lots of booze makes this place one of the best places to be in.
  • Vicci 4th & Colorado – 21 & up w/dress code enforced. This is an upscale place with good music, 2 stories, lounge area, and a good place to go if you are with your g/f or wife. Large smoking area and patio with waterfall outside. It they have a live band that night it’s hit or miss.
  • Cuba Libre – across the street from Vicci. 21 & up free cover. Not much of a dance floor but good music and the low lights and large couch against the wall make this place a good place to relax and get to know someone you just met and have some drinks with. Lots of Latin girls come here.
  • Qua. 4th & Colorado. 25 & up No cover w/dress code enforced. Nice place a little small but unique for having a large fish tank as a dance floor filled with sharks and stingrays. If the fish tank is roped off most people just stand around and watch the sharks swim around. When they drop the ropes the lit up aquarium gets full of nicely dressed up girls shaking their stuff. If you open up a tab they will approve a $50 charge to your card that drops off after a few days so don’t be alarmed.
  • Pure Ultra Lounge 6th &Trinity. 21 & up. Soft blue neon all over the place, 2 stories tall, good music, good drinks. This place strikes me like it was misplaced and belongs somewhere on 4th and Colorado.
  • Element – 5th & Lavaca this place is mostly full of hot chicks and tiny skirts they play lots of Latin music and they have good drinks.
There is another place that is new next to Cuba Libre that has a safari theme to it, but I have not been in there yet.
There are many other good places like Spill, Barcelona, Illusion, etc…etc…but the ones mentioned above are the most recent ones I have been in.

Others
  • The library - 6th & Trinity, no cover. This place always has great looking girls and good tequila shots for cheap. It gets a little crowded upstairs and downstairs.
  • Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar – 6th near Trinity. $5 or $10 cover 21 & up. One of the best non dance clubs to be in. 2 pianos constantly being played by 4 artist who entertain and amuse the crowd. Good beer/drinks.
  • Fuel 6th &Trinity. 21 & up. Good place to start off, cheap drinks and lots of car stuff to look at on the walls. I’ve only been here once but from what I remember it was alright.
  • Coyote Ugly 6th & Neches. This place needs no intro, hot bartenders dancing and getting sluty on and behind the bar.
  • Iron Cactus – 6th & Trinity, no cover. Good place to have some beers and listen to live music.
  • Aquarium 6th & Trinity, no cover. This place is usually a good place just to stop in and have a few cheap drinks if you are with your girlfriend or wife and then walk out to the next club. It is small and the last time I was there the Aquarium was empty... I would not suggest staying here unless you are with a girl or you are a girl and looking to hook up. There are usually 10 guys per every girl there.
I’m sure I missed a lot of places but you can’t really go wrong unless you hear someone suggest going into one of these places below. Here are the places you should avoid.
  • The Rainbow Cattle Company –unless you are into the gay and lesbian atmosphere then you should not be in here.
  • Cockpit – same reason as above.
  • Paradox – This place scores the lowest points in my book. Unless you love the thug life and tripping over countless broken beer bottles and playing bodyguard to your wife or g/f all night then stay away at all cost! This place is always over crowded with drunk/high angry puking people. (the cops love to stand near the doors.) Then again if you like to pick up on severely drunk and loud high school girls then this is the place for you.

This should be enough to get you started not to mention I’m tired of typing. Once 2 am rolls around and your all hungry and half drunk I suggest going to grab a slice of pizza from 4th & Colorado. There is nothing better to sober up the censes like a huge slice of piping hot pizza and water from the local vendors. Welcome to Austin!

I went to Qua Sunday night and I got in, I'm only 24. It might be different on a Friday or Saturday. But it is a very neat club.
Maggie Mae's and the Chuggin monkey were also very fun dive bars on 6th street.
