Thanks for the headsup Twalls!

So is this a highly recommended purchase deal, or is this just a good deal? I am mainly referring to the XSI with 12MP rather than just the XS with 10MP.

Both are great intro cams and will introduce you to the world of DSLRs.. It will allow you to get started in your lens collection (and you WILL collect them).. I have a Canon 20D and it's only an 8.2 Mp DSLR, but a superior Build quality.. Both of these are plastic casings.. Don't let that discourage you.. I had the Digital Rebel (300D) when it first came out, and it was plastic as well, and I had no issues with it. Just know that you'll prolly upgrade later.. If you plan to upgrade sooner rather than later, go w/ the XS, if you plan to keep it for a while, get the XSI, both are good cameras.. The lenses that you get on the other hand are "eh" at best.. the 18-55 lens that I got with my 20D was a plastic cased lens, decent quality for a sometimes use lens, not something I'd shoot with everyday. It's also a 3.5-5.6f lens, so that means that you'll need decent lighting to shoot with this, or your shutter speeds will be limited.. I normally like to shoot w/ 2.8 or lesser lenses so that I can be prepared in any type of light.

canon 18-55mm lens

I personally have the 75-300 lens and I LOVE IT.. It is the cheapest lens of my collection, but my 2nd most valued lens.. I use it for action photography most often.. I've covered Texas Rangers games, Mixed Martial Arts events, my kids soccer and baseball games, weddings, etc. Once again, you're looking at an even more limited aperture w/ 4-5.6f but for the price of this lens, (think I only paid 180 for it) it's a GREAT lens to get you so close.. It's also light weight so you can hand hold it. Just be prepared to stand far from your subject, I think it's minimum focus range is almost 5ft (how far back you have to stand from your subject, but remember you can zoom in w/ this lens, you don't need to be close)

Now the 55-250 lens is a fairly new lens (I didn't even know about it till just now) based on the fact that it's an EF-S mount (won't be compatible if you ever plan to go to a pro camera (full-frame)) This lens has image stabilizing built in which can be turned on and off, so that helps if you don't have steady hands.. Once again, it's a 4-5.6f lens, so ample light is necessary..

55-250mm lens

The lens that I have and recommend to ALL people getting into photography that are looking for a permanent standard zoom lens is the Tamron 28-75 mm 2.8f lens.. I LOVE THIS LENS.. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time.. This is what I'd upgrade to instead of getting that 55-250mm lens.. I'd get the 75-300, and this, and call it a day.. In my bag right now, I have an 18-55mm, 28-75mm, 75-300mm and a 50mm, and 100mm prime lenses.. With these lenses I can cover anything.. I normally shoot cars w/ the 18-55mm haven't had a need to get the 10-22mm (very expensive, $700, I'd prolly get a third party lens instead of canon namebrand)
