I would never take my car to an automatic car wash. Too many variables out of your control that might negatively affect your car.

Well when i was in a hurry and just wanted a quick wash... the automatic wash was cool...
Well if you go somewhere to have someone wash your car, don't they use the same automatic car wash thing to wash your car????

Go to a self-wash bay with a power spray wand - that's what I've always done... that way nothing touches your car but water/soap.

1. Pre-Soak
2. High Pressure Soap
3. High Pressure Rinse
4. Spot-Free Rinse

Done

I Hand wash my own car. I want to keep it as swirl free as possible. Those hand wash places you take it to are no better then an automatic, they still will swirl up your paint.

the hand wash places are almost worse as their rags carry the dust of every car that's passed before them and the amount of dust in that little rag is far more concentrated then the brush places.

My advice is to take the time to put a few coats of a good wax on her by hand and whenever you need a quick cleaning, swing by a touch free automatic wash and you're usually good. I have a black car that shows EVERYTHING and that does me just fine. Of course, my baby is garage kept ALWAYS. She's enjoying a comfy garage today while the rain comes pouring down as a matter of fact. God bless beaters

I have a carwash by my house that takes the car in to detailing bay if it can't fit into the automatic wash.
I had made a mistake of taking my car to a wash two weeks ago.. screwed up my wheel and a sideskirt... :\
