damn, now i'm thinking i will cancel my service appt with crest, and just drive the extra 15 min down to sewell. i will do this tomorow, i'm fed up with stealers altogether, but i remember the professionalism of sewell when i was car-shopping...
yesterday my engine light came on, and idle was kinda funny (grubbs did a throttle body cleaning and fuel injector service)
so i called and asked if this ever happens after that service, and he said it was probably my gas cap not tightly secured, i was like WTF, i have ocd, so i always click the cap at least twice.
so i went under the hood, and it turns out they didn't push the hose all the way down on the pcv valve, where my oil catch can is!! those bastards

I'll +1 on Sewell... and your gas cap is part of the evaporative system, so it can cause a SES light to come on if not closed or if it's seal is going bad.

Sewell tells me my z-tube caused the leak because, " without the resonator in there, it doesn't have a vaccum and free's it up too much... and that's from infiniti, so you'll have to call the 1-800 number if you have any issues"
i told him about the magnusson-moss act, but he said it's up to infiniti to decide if they want to pay for the work, and they don't...
so i had to pay the $138 diagnostic fee
what do you guys think? should i go through all the trouble of dealing with infiniti directly, for the oil-pooling issue?
i'm considering just fixing it myself, since i saw a how-too thread on here awhile back

So what happens when a 350Z comes into the Nissan dealership for an oil pooling issue?

Personally I experienced the oil pooling issue when I first changed my plugs. Changed my plugs a year later and surprisingly there wasn't any more oil pooling. You can try some RTV silicone around the valve cover in those areas...should do the trick since there aren't any gaskets for that area.

yeah i'm going to do just that ^

but to finalize my horror story,
i went to sewell today to pick up my car, and decided to talk to an advisor to see if they could waive my $138 diagnostic fee.
well, he wasn't going to budge telling me that the fee included the inspection of all the other parts of the car
but i wanted him to tell me how the z-tube could cause the oil pooling issue, so we went to look under the hood for a visual and they brought a techie guy along too
well lowe-and behold, the pcv hose that connects under the z-tube was DISCONNECTED and dangling in the engine bay. i saw it and literally said, "what the fvck is this?"
immediately the tech says, "well there's your problem, there's nowhere to hook up this pcv hose"
i said, "yes there is, it's under the tube right here"
they insisted that the tube wasn't connected in the first place and so that's why they weren't going to honor the warranty (despite the fact that, over the phone, i had been given a completely different reasoning)
they obviously removed the intake and upon re-installation, couldn't figure out why there was no pcv connector on the top of the tube, and so left it dangling.
i said, "you have the nerve to leave my pcv hose disconnected and still charge me $140?" they told me to call the 1-800 number to see if infiniti will do anything for me
i'm livid... i saw them pull the car around and so i know it was at least run for a few minutes with a huge hole in the intake tube, sucking in unfiltered air (prolly not that big of a deal, but still )

and so the stealershiip lives up to it's name

I'd ask for credit, refund, or deny the charge (I use VISA just in case). I'd refuse to authorize payment for any work given you can already find and document the problem. No TSB yet on this is really annoying. These aren't cheap parts.

Dealers have done this work already as warranty claim and would not have done so w/o pre-approval. They just don't want to do any work for Warranty Reimbursement Rates, which are not as good as Customer Labor rates. To add insult to injury, some of the allowable warranty claims for time are pretty optimistic (too few hours). I cannot blame a dealer for not wanting to do it, but I do blame them for effectively refusing to do the work as a Warranty Claim.

BS on the Z-tube. This happens even with a bone stock intake. What they are trying to say is you put enough "positive pressure" (reverse of vacuum => too little vacuum) on the crankcase to push oil past those seals. TOTAL BS as the PCV would let that out and into the intake, even if it were true, which it is not. 350Z's don't use the resonator, it's purely a sound issue.

Nissan motors I've had all have some leakage eventually around the spark plug hole gasket. The difference is that is a $10 part and available separately, and super easy to install. Only with the VQ have I seen the spark plug hole gaskets are not available separately.

Even the FSM states inspect the spark plug hole "O" ring gaskets and replace as needed in the 2004. Obviously when it was written, they thought they would be able to just sell the "O" gasket separately. Technical writers never changed that to reflect the idea the gaskets are only available with new rocker covers.

I assume you've seen this, but in case not:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...rranty-up.html

Look at the first post - there is proof that the OP had theirs done under warranty. 3-4 posters on the thread have also had theirs done under the Powertrain warranty (6 years/70k whichever comes first). Careful on the 6 years, it is from date in service which does not mean a full year unless the car was first purchased end of the calendar year or something. It expires 6 months from the date it was put out for sale and purchased or leased. Same for the 4/40k basic warranty.

HTH and good luck bro'

I know this is an older thread but i just saw this. Back in october of 09 i took the 04 g in to have them check why my engine was ticking and cuz i had the pooling of oil in #1 and #6. I had 5 mnths before my warranty was up. Turns out my oil pump went bad and i didnt have enough oil pressure and allowed damage internally. They didnt have any maintenace on the computers so they wanted me to show all my oil changes i had. I bought used at 30k and had all my info but they had nothing for the first 30. They wanted me to pay for an inspection of the engine to see if infiniti would replace it. It was gonna be around 700 to inspect it so i took a chance and they replaced the longblock after inspection and didnt even charge me the inspection fee. Whats funny now that i saw this thread is i had the ztube on there. What is up with the dealerships. I had the work done at sewell also. It sucks for the op but i dont see how the dealerships can keep doing this
