Nothing is inappropriate, unless you are fisting goats with you hand on fire

I don't understand why most of you guys who get deployed throw away all your money into a car. Do the smart thing and buy a house.

I finally have money to start putting into my car like i have always wanted to man! Secondly im station in Clovis, NM so buying a house is the last thing on my mind because they housing market has shot up to DOUBLE what it was 3 years ago once the base wasnt going to close down. A house in Clovis that is selling for 180k you can find in the DFW for about 100k. I absolutley refuse to give into the SHIFTFIFTY's way. The SHIFTYFIFTY are the 75 ppl in Clovis that own all the property/land in the town. They call all the shots like what gets built, do they purposly target the military going to and from work with the police-which they most certainly do because its pretty much GUARANTEED money to them. They also control how much they charge for rent and the housing market because they know that the houses they have is all there is to buy. That is the big crisis out there. They refuse to build anymore Houses/apartments and thus jack the prices up on the existing infrastructure they have which is BS. Needless to say i will not put a penny in those pockets of those people, and the first chece i have to get order ANYWHERE else i will take them lol Sorry for the rant...Im almost 21 not married and have no kids, what else should i be spending my money on besides my second g/f???

We dont put the money into houses because we are never there. Its alot easier to pick up and move a car then pick up and move a house. I know for me between one duty station and another was a mere 2 years. I would be backwards on a house not to mention i would have to sell it and still find somewhere to live unless its the last day before i leave.

Buying a house while in the military isn't the wisest of decision if you're a young guy. Getting deployed or reassigned across the country increases your risk tremendously, and attempting to sell a home after the fact is a contributor to homes getting foreclosed on.

Home purchase isn't the end all, be all of wise decisions. People have different life situations and renting may be their best option.

I would have to agree that buying a house when you're active duty is risky to say the least. I know many active duty military right now that are underwater on their houses and then they get shipped off to a new location.

In today's market the only reason to buy a house IMHO is as an investment (deeply discounted and usually needing some repairs).
