Siiigh (repost to here since its local)

So I detailed my car today for like 3 hours.. Got it lookin real prestine like I do every week. I go out to pick up Starcraft 2 beautiful hot day great for a good drive to the local gamestop.. Was waiting in line in the parking lot behind this brand new Chevy Silverado when all of the sudden he starts backing up.. I slam my horn and he just keeps coming and rams into my bumper. His trailer hitch went right through my front bumper.. Thank god he has insurance.

Great day turned sad real quick!

So I am thinking they are going to cut me a check and then I just find someone to fix it? He has progressive btw.

Oh dear lord...this brings back memories in a really bad way. I had something very similar happen to my Integra back in the day (though the circumstances were a bit different). Seeing that square hole makes me shudder since mine looked just like that.

I would hit up R1Forever80 and see what he thinks. Depending on how much you get reimbursed by their insurance, your options might open up.

Sorry to hear that this happend, especially after you spent time detailing...

Let the insurance come out and look at it. Make sure you tell them you want a brand new oem bumper, no used or aftermarket bumper. Dont let them cheap out since its not ur fault. If you have a lein they might make the check out to you and the lein holder. If need be its easier to have them make it out to you and the body shop. Let me know and i can you my shop info and once you have the check we can see what you want to do

btw r1, I tried that and my insurer (geico) said that it was in my contract that they try to use aftermarket (oem style) parts first. I was like fck that I'll pay the difference for oem parts.

Thats because thats you insurance. Its in your underwriting. Btw geico, progessive, and safeco are the cheapest companies. Statefarm and farmers are becoming cheap too. Nowadays you have to state in your policy what kind of parts you want to replace. Its the other guys insurance that is paying so he should have a say in what is replaced with

R1,
This is what GaryC over on the general forum recommended..
"You know Platelock, if this guys insurance company gives you any **** turn the whole thing over to your insurance company....that is what you pay them for! This won't affect you premiums at all, it's their job. You'll need a few written estimates to give his insurance company, visit high-end shops so you'll have enough left over for clear sides and an exhaust system. By law you can have any body shop you want do the repairs! Good Luck!"

What do you think?

Problem with having you insurance deal with it is that you will have to pay your deductable first then they will reimburse you for it after they collect from insurance. Just let progressive come out. Make sure they come see you and not let them tell you to come into one of their locations. The have mobile adjusters. Be there when he is writing and estimate and tell him or her you wont settle for anything less than a new oem bumper

R1,

Thanks mate. I contacted Strafe and they can do the Nismo poly bumper for 350 so I think that is what I will do. I would really like to get the work done by you because I know you do awesome work and I could hopefully get you to paint my grill as well lol.

Okay so I called Crest infiiniti and they quoted me at $365.15 for a brand new bumper. I then called Extreme Auto Collision and he wanted me to come in so he can look at it ofcourse but with me providing the bumper he said no less then $300 for paint and installation.. I have the insurance adjuster coming out tomorrow to give me an estimate and cut me a check.. So I am thinking that I am going to get around $800.00

dont let them get off without you taking it to a shop, when I messed up my front end they quoted me $1500 in damages. After I took it to the shop they laughed and said they had to call the adjuster out to ask him why he gave such an insulting estimate. it ended up being around 4k in damages/labor.

It doesnt matter if he takes it to a shop or not. I do agree with rob, dont just take the insurance's word thats all the damage is what they paid for. They are going to low ball the estimate or they will write the estimate to what damage is visible. Thats their nature to be cheap. Thats why its called an estimate. If there is hidden damage or overlooked a supplement is made. Just call the insurance back out to reinspect and another check it cut for the difference. They may pay for the absorber off the back or may not. Its not visible so, will have to find out once the bumper is off. I deal with insurance companies on a weekly basis so if you have any questions just hit me up and i can make sure you they are not trying to screw you.
