How long did you set the exposure for? and were you wearing all black? Go outside the garage, and set your shutter speed for about 10 seconds... paint wearing all black, and because you're outside, you can get some sick sky too..

I had it set for like 20 secs.. The problem I have when I do it outside is that I end up with streaks of light on the vehicle since the light isn't reflecting off anything (like the garage walls)

cover the end of the flashlight w/ your hand till you get exactly where you want to go, and as you move do the same thing unless you want to "light" the contours of the car as well...

just for practicing and seeing how much light you need to apply, set your shutter speed lower for "practice" then as you get more familiar w/ how many rings you need to make w/ the light, then you can adjust your shutter speed for longer durations.. You'll just have to move around the car faster.
