Got a Ticket... And some questions.

Finally after more than 6 months in the G I get a speeding ticket on I-20... Apparently today after my pull over sheriffs were pulling over many. I have had my luck by dodging 2 other lasers before and cops didn't go for me. Well, unfortunately third times the charm and my Passport 9500ix gave me a call saying laser basically saying I'm screwed. Since I was gonna get pull over anyways especially by a sheriff I just went ahead and exit for the gas station and roll my windows down, turn car off and throw my keys on top of my roof just to get a laugh. The Sheriff liked it according to his happy tone. All he did was take a look at my ID and model of the car on my insurance at the window, although he did take my ID to his car to write it down but not my insurance and assuming he can't remember like 10 digits of the policy number.

My question is, is this going to be on my insurance before my court date? I just switch to state farm thanks to Kevin Luong about a week ago. Can they get my insurance out of just my ID? And it be weird for him to see me getting a ticket a week after the deal.

From my understanding it shouldnt appear on your record until you either pay the fine admitting guilt or found guilty in court if you fight it.

Can't you just take defensive driving and it not go on your record? Thats what i've done the past couple of times I have gotten a ticket. No tickets are on my record

I could but he cited me to go to court and I'm not sure the ruling would be. I was not only going 10 over 65 but 26. Can't believe they chose me out of everyone was going faster and swerving I was going straight but that's what I get for staying in the back

Probably wanna do the traffic lawyer thing. It will go on your record cause you cannot do defensive driving as mentioned above. Surprised he gave you so much when you made hike laugh. Most cops have gone super easy on me when I make them laugh. The court appearance will make the decision of what you're gonna do. They will give you all your options.

And in Texas the insurance companies have a direct feed to all insurance carriers. They check to confirm you have insurance based on your license so they don't have to check the paper slip. Or at least its not as important

So I can cross defensive driving off my list unless the court will grant me one. I'm going for a defer adjudication if not. Man I'm only 1 mph away from defensive driving... My luck

Tim, the ticket expert here...(I average 2-4 per yr) and I bet I'm jinxing myself w/ this...

Anyways, on the ticket you can plead not guilty and request a court date; depending on the city/county that can be anywhere between 1-12 months; at that point you can go to court yourself and ask for deferred adjudication/disposition which will be anywhere between 90-180 days. This is exactly what the attorney would do for you for $50-$70 bucks..so save yourself some bling.

Where did you get the tkt if you don't mind me asking.

JD

Thanks for the input. A deferred is what I'm planning for my alternative. Hopefully this judge is generous enough. He was hiding on the entrance of i20 and Dallas ave. And a couple miles toward mesquite there was 3 more that had pulled over some

Same as with the cop, you gotta get on their good side. Judges don't usually have a sense of humor unfortunately. Be factual and nothing emotional. He figures it was a setup. Just say you were an idiot and looking for HIS help (stroke his ego a little - he's the man). He may even grant you the ability to do defensive driving. If you haven't had a ticket in a while, this will help your argument as well. You don't get what you don't ask for.

I agree I might just do what you suggest this time. A year ago I got a schoolzonr ticket for turning left on to it without knowing and the judge was a woman and she was really lenient. I pleaded guilty and she gave me a court fee and defensive driving. But this time it's a man so I guess I'll just get there early in the morning?

sucks, my last one was like over 25 over also and there were really no options, I didn't go plea to the judge though, just paid the 300 and whatever bucks and said oh well.

There goes my hope haha. Well atleast you had an option of not going. The sheriff only gave me a choice which is court. Maybe it's to help me. First thing in the morning I'm going to call up for a copy of my police report. Thanks for all the help

JD, You can save yourself a lot of dough with a good radar detector. Mine has saved me at least over $2k in fines.
