Chris - the PSP has actually done very well for them...just not in the US. It is all over the place in Japan and they sell like hotcakes over there. I think that they are hoping to break into the US market now by tying it to a cellular network a la ipad/iphone. I laughed (as did the audience at E3 when they said that they chose "the fastest and most capable of all the US cellular networks." Clearly I'm not alone in laughing at the irony.

Nintendo made it clear (to me) that they are focusing much harder on 3rd party developers with the new console. Having EA on stage was huge and shows that they are gonna bring the big guns. Battlefield 3, assassins creed, tekken, and others were all mentioned. And of course you have, you know....Zelda.

GameStop made a few comments about the PSP and Sony's overall disappointment last year a few times. There were some ugly words and ironically Sony agreed and apologized. That's the basis for my comment. It sells well, but not nearly as well (less than half) that of the Nintendo DS, which is just stupid to me, but whatever. The Sega Game Gear didn't sell well either and it was the first color handheld! It was a game changer and just like everything Sega, it failed.

Fair enough. And yea, PSP can't compete with the DS as it is simply due to price. You are marketing to a younger-ish crowd with these and parents would rather spend less in most cases. It also seems to me that mobile gaming is always more successful in areas/countries that have a higher number of people who utilize public transportation. Sitting on a train or bus every day is always better with a PSP in hand.

Oh god....here we go

Cue the multi-page debate over proper processor/GPU/brand/blah blah

I do enjoy that there are so many knowledgeable people in the DFW area who have such a wide variety of interests.

$800 budget. Don't need keyboard, mouse or monitor.
