Tonight at 2:30 AM or so I got the rarest of opportunities.....a 1998 Porche Turbo was cruising in the HOV lane with a really hot blonde. I decide that opportunities to flex your muscle with a Porcke Turbo don't come up all that often. I figure what the hell a ticlet for this would be so worth it.....And the pre-race rituals of pulling ahead and slowing down begin.....And with a finally look and a goodbye kiss blown to me by the female occupant....the Porche hits it at the top of 4th at 72 mph or so. I follow suite and the young lady seemed a bit surprised that her goodbye kiss wasn't really a goodbye kiss at all. Rather it was only a kiss because the front bumper of this mysterious automobile was pulling back up along side the Porche. I imagine the driver of this Porche is not used to a car sitting next to it after he floors it but the race continues.....115 mph comes and goes and i am now next to the Porche seeing a rather puzzled look out of the female occupant as I inch up slowly as if going to pass this Super car from Porche. Unfortunatley all good things must come to an end, and so does the race. Just before eclipsing 122 mph a healthy dose of traffic forces me to hit the old brakes. The Porche, being in the HOV lane has nothing but clear road ahead and continues on (probably thinking he won the race) but we all know the unsettling truth....A TT G CAN PULL ON A PORCHE...
Note: On any other day the Porche would have most likely pulled on me but I had optimum conditions for this race: Temp. 74 degrees, tires were locking up well tonight, I hit all my gears and made good shifts etc.
Just letting everyone in on that one.....I am still shaking thinking about it.

this was 635 towards I-35. It was at 635 West about 8 to 10 miles from I-35. It was a 1998 due to the older rear air dams and older body lines. It wasn't the Old, Old one with the huge wing and weird wheels. The wheels base was not as wide as the new ones (as they widened them by 8 cm post 1998) The Front air dams were not the robust and agressive dams put on Turbos post 2000. There was a Facoty turbo wing turbo badging and 996 turbo wheels. Additionally there was some faint spool from the factory set up. and If, in fact this was a wanna be turbo, I would have smoked him. Any Porsche less than a turbo would be easily beaten by 360 whp. So was it a turbo, yes. Was it a 1998 there is a good chance and if I am wrong there then the only other year it could possibly be is a 1999.

That car is probably putting 325 hp down to the wheels if it is a 400 hp engine. At 3,300 lbs. and call it 100 lbs. = 10 whp or so (a rough estimate) so that puts us about even in terms of power to weight. By those numbers he is running the equivlant of 365 whp or so when equated to the 3,650 lbs. of the G. My car dynoed at 99 degrees and made 360 whp. So, at 75 degrees I was probably running 368 whp or so plus add 85 or 100 lbs. for the turbo kit intercooler etc. Long, story short he should have beaten me.....but not by a lot......and that was exactly the result.

Thanks Jeff, but here's the deal, with my current set up and extremely conservative boost and A/F settings, the odds of me hitting 400 whp at 7.8 psi or so is very high. With a 4mm head gasket and aquamist water injection the potential for blowing my engine is so much lower than the guys running 9 and 10 psi on stock internals with more agressive A/F settings. Plus I just got a new job so I am planning on building the motor anyway, but you're right, I woud rather build my current motor instead of buying a new one and building it.
