thinking of adding a detached garage

Hey guys,

This is perhaps a long shot, but I'm trying to get some preliminary information on adding a detached garage to an existing property. Anybody have any experiences that they can share? This would be in Irving. I'd like to get an idea on how much something like this costs and what sort of permit process there is if any.

thanks.

Are you going to try to do it, or are you going to contract it out?

Contact the City of Irving permitting department. Ask them what you need to fill out & what fees will need to be paid. Their website is www.ci.irving.tx.us. On the left side bar click on the drop down box & click on building inspections. Scroll down to the orange area & you'll see permit application. But still call the city, because they may need plans and obviously $$$!

Hope this helps!

Gonna contract it out. Just trying to educate myself before I start talking to builders. Thanks for the info.

If you need a contractor I might be able to hook you up. I work for a home builder, but my contacts might know people that remodel.

Thanks for the heads up, but it's probably a little premature to talk to contractors. I won't be able to move on this till august or so. Just trying to get together some internet info and was hoping some people who might have gone through the process would have some helpful links.

BTW, which builder do you work for?

When you're ready let me know & I'll see what I can do. I know how they try to jack up those prices... I have to deal with them & their price increases they try to slide in!!!

A friend of mine built a two car detached garage with the interior unfinished for about 4K. We have no permiting or zoning problems as we live in the sticks. That included the foundation and he used "hardyplank" on the exterior walls. I has one walkthrough door.
