Day at the Track...
So last night I took my G out to the track, which the first night of the season. I was surprised when the fastest i ran was 14.77 on a stock motor with just a K&N typhoon intake. I thought i would be running faster, but not so much. I ran this after letting my car cool down an hour after my last run. I made 8 passes in just a little bit over 4 1/2 hours. Temp was about 60* or so. Also the track was not prepped and only put the sticky stuff down at the beginning of the track. I found myself scratching in 3rd gear which i've never done before on the street. So I'm sure that is a little factor... But my friend has a 06 GTO and ran a 13.2 and I'm not sure how he could get his to hook up and he was saying that he doesn't scratch in 3rd. I don't know, but i did see another G that wasn't able to put it in the 14's. Also their was a 350Z that was running mid 14's a little faster than me. So I'm not sure what was happening, but i was pretty consistent on my 60 FT at 2.1. So do you have any suggestions? I do have some parts at home that i want to put on it but i wanted to see my gains in the 1/4 so hopefully they will improve drastically. Thanks in advance for your input.
The last time I checked the G35 didn't have a V-8 with 400hp. That's why you're not seeing the same numbers as your friend.
Gs are not that fast stock, they usually only put down about 220-230 to the wheels. The 14.2 1/4-mile time Infiniti gives is from countless runs with perfect conditions until they get the lowest possible time they can publish. The fact that you couldn't mirror that is not uncommon. Your intake will only give you a few horsepower and that's not going to subtract tenths from your time.
I'm not trying to discourage your modding, just being honest.

I wasn't saying that i wanted to be as fast as him but i don't see how he was getting the time he wanted and i was off by a half a second or so. I know the air filter wasn't going to add a lot but i was just expecting a little faster i guess. Is their anyway to cool the engine down faster between runs? After it set for an hour or so then i ran a lot better... Like can you coat the plenum with something so it doesn't get so hot? If I recall it is aluminum correct? Also thanks for being honest I do need some good input. Anything and everything helps..
You need to get up here and run at KCIR if your 6MT is only doing high 14.7s down in Wichita. My stock 5AT went low 14.3s in the 98mph range here at KCIR. What were your trap speeds like? Are you running larger than stock rims? Ditch the intake. It's only slowing you down.

Not sure how an intake would slow you down. I can see an exhaust giving you a drop in back pressure, so losing you some low down power, but the freer the intake the better, (but I agree with you that it is for a small gain, but nowhere near a 10th on the strip).
How are your tyres? I found when I took my tubby to Santa Pod, one of the biggest determining factors was the tyres I had on. Were they new, worn, greasy, over-inflated, etc.

I was going 96.19 through the lights and the tires are brand new just put them on the day before I went out. Stock rims and the tires are the toyo 4 proxies. I think since it was the first opening of the track for the past year or so, that might play a huge roll. What kind of 1/4 are you guys pullin?

Stock intake w/ztube is the best intake you can have for this car performance wise..Injen is crap, poop charger is crap.. Stock/ OEM nissan parts is the best.. That intake is killing your time a bit.
Don't worry, I'm modded w/ true dual exhaust, crawford z plenum and I run 14.9's at my track.. If I go to to another local track thats a bit faster than the one I go to I will run 14.6- 14.7

Intakes can either help you or hurt you, it's really tough to tell. Aside from drag radials, I think the biggest contributer to better times at the quarter mile is a tune with any intake, hfc/tp, and true dual exhaust, which is the only thing that I am missing.
I'm going to try and hit up the track this friday and hopefully beat my PB of 14.2. If I can only get my launch down without hitting the limiter on 1st or second I'll be golden.

Was this your first time racing the car or drag racing?
What rpms were you shifting at?
What gear did you finish in?
A 6MT with a 2.09 60', 60 degree weather, and a decent track would tell me the car should at least be doing 14.4s. My guess is you were shifting too early.
