Unhappy need some racing advice???

went out to the track last night ( kennedale, texas raceway 1/8 mile track)
this was my first time out with the 03 g35 coupe 6mt. i couldnt get it to hook up, i was spinning the tires through the first 2 gears and one time through third gear as well, anyways my best time was a 10.01 and i know i didnt do the g justice. i took off at about 2500 rpms with the traction control off. the best time i got was with the traction control on, but as you know the car quites pulling when the tires start spinning with it on, but anyways what im trying to ask is what do i need to do, to get a better launch. how many rpms?? or just give me some advice plz. i dont want to give the g a bad rep at the track, lol.

it doesn't matter, he is going through the water box which will cause wolds best drag radials to spin if u don't clean them up.

+1 on avoiding h20... also, you might try lowering tire pressure... also depending on your suspension, you might try softening it up so it squats to help hook-up better... since you are MT, feather the clutch, don’t dump it... and most important don’t race an AT sedan that will smoke you and make it look worse than it is

Coilovers are the best option... sway bar settings could help... as for tire pressure - you don’t want to go so low that you can’t make it to a gas station after the track... not sure where you are but there’s usually a gas station within a few miles of most tracks around here.

You need to start with baby steps before trying to launch at 2500rpms.

1) Avoid the water box. You might have gotten the rear tires free of water, but those front tires will leave a short trail of water. if you must drive through the water, then swing wide into the far side of the lane and pull up to the time box. Then reverse and swing into the middle part of the lane and pull up to stage. Swinging wide will allow most of the water to come off the front tires and other drag racers will appreciate it.

2) Launch really low, to the point that the car bogs off the line. There's no reason why you can't get a 2.3 60 foot with no wheel spin and grab a 14.6-14.7.

3) Continue to launch higher and higher (500rpm increments) until you get the hang of things.

4) A launch on street tires requires a bit of clutch slip and throttle modulation. Don't expect to be able to go full throttle through much of 2nd.

5) When you launch, let the clutch out just enough to feel the car start to roll then release the clutch quickly while feeding it gas. If you release the clutch quickly from a dead stop, you'll shock the drivetrain and probably roast the tires badly.

6) If you get excessive wheel spin in 1st, excessive wheel spin in 2nd, or wheel hop, abort the run because your ET will absolutely suck and the wheelhop can easily snap a halfshaft.

7) ET is all about how well you do in the first 100'. After 1st gear, a monkey could do the job. Shifting is not hard if you're somewhat corrdinated and know the correct way to hold the shifter on each shift.

You can buy a small air compressor at Wal-Mart for like $10. It is well worth the investment.

I carry a standard set of tool and rachets in my car along with a $20 air compressor and a tire patch kit. It's very handy.

+1

I carry a 3/8" ratchet, spare oil filter, 8,10,12,17mm sockets, air pump, and tire patch kit.

No spare tire is FTW
