95 Maxima auto with a 75 shot of nitrous goes 10.9@124mph

Yes, a bit off topic, but it shows just how capable these motors are and also how fast you can really go for very little money and a well sorted chassis.

10.987@124.4mph with 1.582 60'

This guys has been on Maxima.org for about 6 years now. The guy is in his 50s, retired, and thought it would be fun to make a sleeper Maxima. The Maxima is a 95 automatic (4 speed) with mild gutting (trunk gutted, light front seats, no back seat, MH slicks on 8lbs rims, light rims out back, exhaust work that dumped 40lbs). These cars are already super light from the start weighing in at 2820-2920lbs depending on model option. His Maxima weighs 2762lb (track verified) with him (170lbs) in it. He also use to own a 2002 Maxima auto with nitrous that did mid 11s.

The set up:

255hp VQ35 swap (190 VQ30 is stock)
Headers with dump
Ported intake manifold with MD spacer
Stand alone ECU
Intake
JWT Cams
75 shot (shot hits off the line)
stock auto with a high stall TC and cooler
22" MH slicks
Coilovers

~270whp/255wtq NA
~340whp/345wtq with 75 shot (effective power to weight of a C6 Z06)

Basically it's a $3000 car with a $800 engine swap and $4K in supporting mods. It's a bit of a sleeper. It's proof that if you know how to set up a car, you can make it perform.....even with FWD.

Maxima guys haven't been running 10s. I should know, I've been on Maxima.org for 10 years now and owned a heavily modded 96 5MT The Maxima guys are VQ pioneers though. They're creative as hell and they do stuff with VQ that make even the Z VQ gurus look like rookies.

I was reading a thread a while back, and found that quite a few of us on driver used to own maximas. I remember you and Jeff and a few others from maxima.org. The guy you are talking about is JIME isn't it? Isn't he the one that came up with the shiftfast mod?

EDIT: I think it is him since i came upon this video <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsYM5GJAgYU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsYM5GJAgYU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Mostly I see 1.6's on light @ss fwd's. That dude can launch.

I can't consistently get in the 2.20's on a RWD on street tires. I can launch my PRELUDE on street tires better than I can my G. WTF!

Old Maxima.org member:

One 96 max auto
One 97 max 5spd
One 99 max auto

I still miss my modded 97 and wish I had kept it for a winter car. I had fun with it at the strip too.

Speaking of swapping out the 3.0 for the 3.5 in the max. Who is going to be the first G35 owner to swap the 3.5 to the 3.7. Hmmm wonder how the fitment would work....

Ive always been a fan of the 4th gen maximas, proabably one of my favorite body styles along with the 5.5 gen. They have been proven to have potential, and I hear the VQ35DE swap is very common now. Alot my buddies had 4th gens. The 95-96 version was actually slightly faster than the latter years, my girlfriend who has a stock 95 GLE, pulls two cars on my friends lightly modded 98 SE.

i remember that from altimas.net and the guy was attempting to do the VQ35 swap into a first gen altima. What ever happen to that? That place was all about doing SR20DET swaps, i would remember at least 1 thread a week someone asking I used to be on that forum back when i owned my '95 altima, good memories.

Ahh.........memories. For a time I had the fastest 2nd gen altima, too think that it was faster than my G. Gotta love what a little n20 can do for any car. I was able to get it into the mid 13's before i got rid of it.

Wow, someone finally did it. I always thought it would be one of the turbo guys though, I never thought it would be Jime. I think I remember you Dave from when I was on the .org all the time. You were putting down some good times too if I remember correctly. I had the '97 with the custom blue paint and custom turbo setup (shadow on the .org)

I miss my car, I wish I had the time to sort it out with the turbo and all. I never quite managed to get everything tuned properly. At 7psi, my car was putting down 302whp and 314ft/lbs, but it was bogging off the start because it was running so rich. I think the best we ever ran was 13.7@108. It's amazing what traction can get you, my best 60ft was a dismal 2.3. The downside of running 19"s.

I always wondered how the car would have done had I swapped the front brakes out so I could put slicks on it and then fixed the fuel issue. We were aiming for 350whp at 12psi. But then I blew the motor and after fixing that, had some electrical issues with the car so I just sold the whole thing.
