They're cheap, they're light (18lbs), and they're plentiful. There are lots of available DRs in that size as well because so many F-Bodies run the 16X8s with DRs. If stock suspension F-bodies can pull 1.6 60 foots on the 16"- 26" tall DRs, then you're G shouldn't have any traction problems. The biggest problem you'll have is bogging. The VQ doesn't have the torque and I believe you have a lightened flywheel plus those cams won't help on lowend power either. All of those things will work against you when trying to launch the car hard. You'll need to probably do a 6000rpm clutch slip launch to get into the 1.8 60 foot range.
Yea, the light flywheel was more for fun on the street than serious drag racing. The 4.08 final drive does effectively lower the 1st gear ratio, so It probably won't bog as easily as expected.

I'm looking at the Mickey Thompson P255/60R15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. I think a 10.5 inch wide tire is probably plenty for my car. Alternatively, I'll try a set of P255/50R16's if I get 16 inch wheels.
